You can sort of see the molding in this pic. I don't have any close ups right now. Still putting the finishing touches on the room. Chat Icon

Re: Shoe Molding

question - did you remove the baseboard molding before you put the new floors down? or did you leave the base molding the way it was when you installed the floor and then added shoe molding?

i'm asking b/c the molding in our house is a really nice molding and it's a few inches high so if we remove it, it's probably going to damage the sheetrock and we'll probably have to replace it with new molding which will be expensive b/c it's the larger molding.....so my dad thinks we should leave the molding as is when we install the flooring and then just add a nice shoe molding to cover up the gap....we'd paint the moldings white and the shoe molding would be added throughout the entire first floor even in the kitchen and foyer where there is tile so it matches throughout....just not sure how it would look - especially b/c our walls have rounded corners like in the pic i posted....

we're in contract with a house right now and the molding is a little high too.. there must have been carpets over the wood floors at one point and then molding put down.. so now its just wood floors and the molding looks like its floating.. we're going to do shoe molding throughout as well.

Re: Shoe Molding

i personally do not like shoe molding....

we removed all the molding and had hardwood floors put down...unfortunately the floors are not completely level so we do have some gaps where the base molding meets the floor but i am leaving it bc i hate the shoe molding, i love the clean lines and that just doesnt work for me, so i will live with the few gaps

we do have one bedroom that will probably need shoe molding for the craters that happened between the wall and the laminate floor the previous owners put down, i love the floor and will try to do waynes scotting and match it up as best we can and if need be then use a shoe molding

its all in preference....good luck

Re: Shoe Molding

Nik for us, we started with no molding, no flooring at all (it was cement). So we put the flooring down than the molding, than the shoe molding.

But in your case with the rounded walls, I would take off any shoe molding you might have, put the flooring up to the molding and than put shoe molding. Make sure you leave a gap for expantion and contraction of the flooring. GL Chat Icon
