Anyone ever go to the "starving Artist" oil painting sales at hotels?
I've seen them advertised for years and I was curious if it's worth going to?

So funny you posted this - we are in desperate need for art for this house. Just saw the commerical - I thought it might be cool to check out but DH swears it's some kind of scam.

We took Granny to one several years ago because she was obsessed with finding a painting with "fruit" for the dining room - flowers were OK for the living room, but a painting in the dining room had to have FRUIT!
It's not my style of artwork, but we didn't have any problems with high pressure sales or anything else (and she found her fruit!)

I went years ago to get a painting for my living room. I found a few that I really liked and the sales person helped me see it in different lights and with different frames. I thought the prices were good but then again I knew I wanst going there to get an original oil painting...just a picture to hang in my house.

Years ago my parents went to one and got a decent looking beach scene for the living room.

DH and I are actually going to go to the one in Melville tomorrow - we have been looking for something to go over the mantle for a year and havent found anything yet. Figured it couldn't hurt.
update - we went today to the Melville Marriott and it was PACKED. There was over an hour wait just to get into the grand ballroom where the art was. We ended up leaving after 15 minutes because DD was not going to last.

Same here! I had seen the commercials before in the past and thought it would be worth a shot. DH and I went to Melville yesterday and couldn't believe how packed it was! It was insane! I mean, I understand the prices were really cheap but it was way too unorganized and crowded. We saw a few nice things but left after about 10 minutes.
