Newborn sleeping with mouth open
Is this a cause for concern?
We have noticed that my beautiful new niece (12 days old) tends to sleep with her mouth open. My mom and I don't know if we should say something to my SIL or not.
Any experience or advice? TIA!

Why would it be a problem? I've seen my children sleep with their mouths open.

is her nose stuffy?
loey does this when he has a stuffy nose... maybe they can try to use a nasal aspirator?
also... Loey did that, but when I touched his lip.. he would close his mouth....
I actually sleep with my mouth open, so DH said Loey is just like me

Off the top of my head:
1) People usually sleep with their mouths open when they're sick and/or congested.
2) My mom's friend's son had a major heart defect that went unnoticed at birth and one sign was that he slept with his mouth open (labored).
3) Children/adults who sleep with their mouth open may have enlarged tonsils (or something like that).
Don't know if any of this applies to the average newborn.

My DS sometimes sleeps with his mouth open.
Not sure why it would be a problem.
ETA: He is about 6 weeks in this pic.

i think its normal. newborn nassal passages are TINY. DS still sleeps with his mouth open from time to time
