High Blood Pressure
Has anyone had high blood pressure while they were pregnant? If so, what medication were you put on?
I have high blood pressure and I am hoping to start trying to get pregnant again this summer. I've talked to my ob/gyn and my pcp, but wanted to see what others have been prescribed.

Re: High Blood Pressure
I did. My whole second tri. It wasn't CRAZY high, but it always ranged in the 140/90 range. So he called it borderline
He ended up putting me on Aldomet- it's one of the few BP meds that are known as safe during pregnancy.
I took it the whole rest of the pregnancy and the day I delivered, it went back down to normal on it's own and stayed that way. I didn't need any more meds after that.
He said my high BP was totally pregnancy induced.
ETA- I never got preclampsia either- it was just borderline high BP for months- it was so odd.

Re: High Blood Pressure
I did towards the end. I was already on procardia to stop contractions so they couldn't put me on anything else. I wound up having a c section early bc of pre eclampsia

Re: High Blood Pressure
I've had PIH (pregnancy induced hypertension) this whole pregnancy (my 3rd, but did not have it for the first two DC).
I was put on Labetalol. I started out at 100 mg 3x a day. Then moved to 200 mg 3x a day..... At about 22 weeks, I went to the max dose of 300 mg 3x a day. My BP was always slightly over 140/90, even WITH the meds.
At 37 weeks, I got the go ahead from the perinatologist to take 400 mg 3x a day, since my BP was going to 150/100.... I am not being allowed to go past 39 weeks. I have NST and BPP's 2x a week now. Everything is just perfect with the baby, so we are taking it day by day. No signs of pre-eclampsia. No protein in urine, no spotty vision, etc.
I will deliver in the next week or so, and I am hoping the BP issues resolve itself after I deliver!

Re: High Blood Pressure
I didn't have high BP, but I needed BP meds to keep my contractions at bay. I was on Procardia.

Re: High Blood Pressure
I had pregnancy induced hypertension which turned into pre-eclampsia. I was never put on medication, but I was put on bedrest and monitored closely.

Re: High Blood Pressure
I had PIH at the end of my pregnancy also. I was put on 100mg of Labetalol but that didn't help so they weaned me off that and started me on 30mg of Procardia instead.

Re: High Blood Pressure
i have heard of people being on procardia and labetalol while pregnant. i think the most important thing is to make sure your cardio knows you are trying to get pregnant and monitors you throughout i had preeclampsia that we couldnt get under control with meds and iit lasted 6 months pp - very scary
