Double charged by restaurant
So annoyed. My debit card was charged twice by a restaurant. The first time without the tip, the second time for the entire amount again plus the tip. It's not a pending authorization, this happened two weeks ago. Call the restaurant, he pulls the receipt, only charged once. Says it's a bank error. Contact the bank, they say it's the merchant's fault, not theirs. So now I have to take time out of my day to go into the branch to fill out some form because they can't seem to get it together to mail it to me, and then wait 60 days to be credited. So frustrating

Ugh that's annoying, what bank is that? That happened to me recently and commerce took care of it right away over the phone.

that stinks!!! but good for you for catching it -- some people don't even go over their statements that carefully!  hopefully, the bank will process the credit quickly!

EXACT same thing happened to DH last week. The bank told us this is normal for a lot of restaurants now to put two holds on the card.
HOWEVER, today the correct charge cleared and the second hold STILL has not been lifted.
Mind you, the correct charge was $38. The second hold is for $70.

I have no idea! It's so annoying. This is the first time it's happened to us. It's ridiculous.
We have to call again today b/c one posted and the other hold is still there. We were told the second hold should go away once the other clears.
The second hold was 215% of the bill before tip!! So we had over $100 of money tied up for a $35 meal.

that is so annoying! this happened to us at applebee's... we only spent 20 something dollars and we were charged four different amounts ranging from 35 dollars up to 75 dollars!!!
all in all, it was around 180 dollars!!! so, that was something we definitely noticed. we were never actually charged OUR amount. how this happened i have no idea. either way, we had to call and they barely even offered an apology - in fact, they kind of shrugged it off like 'oh that happens all the time' - umm, it does?!
it took us about a week and it was finally credited back to our debit.
sorry it happened to you too!!!

This is why you should never use debit cards for purchases. Always use credit credit credit!!!!!!! Debit cards offer zero benefits over credit cards.
If a company puts a hold on a credit card, no big deal because it's not considered a "charge" and you don't have to pay it.
If a company puts a hold on a debit card, it subtracts from your active balance.
Gas stations do the same thing, they put a small hold when your card gets authorized at the pump before you start pumping. But that's usually only a dollar.
