It depends on what it is.
For our anniversary, I bought him a digital camera, about $250. For Christmas last year, I found a great leather jacket for him, $125 (on sale)

Usually around $200-250. Our birthdays are 2 days apart and since we're married and have consolidated finances this year, we might just buy ourselves a new digital camera since we need it. We tend to do the joint gift for our anniversary too. Too much that we need now and not enough money to go around.

About $300-400. Last year we were supposed to save our money & only get the kids gifts so I cashed in my Amex points for stuff.'
Now that we have the house, I'm trying to encourage him to get house stuff but he still wants gadgets & toys.

It really depends from year to year. Recently we've been doing something special together instead of giving gifts. Like this year for DH b-day I threw him a bbq and then paid for us to go to Rhode Island for a couple of days. For my brithday we spent 2 nights in the city, saw a broadway show and went to a Knicks game.

we dont get gifts. Just a little something when we think the other might need it. One year I got him a nice 10 speed which was a couple of hundred dollars before a bike trip we took. Other then that we really dont get each other gifts. we spend it all on the kids now.

Too much  We set a "budget" every year but it's a complete joke b/c every year we blow it.
And every year we say "THIS year will be different".....we'll see.

Around $200-300. But this year, starting with Xmas, it's going to be a lot less. We agreed to spend $50-60 on each other because we'd rathe put the money into the "baby fund"

I really believe it is the thought that counts. My ex boyfriend used to give me slutty VS outfits he wanted me to dress in and I would never wear or cookbooks so I could learn to cook. So in the end, while the thought counts -he didn't think.
I also remember my old boss telling me he almost stopped for flower for his wife - and she thought that was great. That's bs - stop the car & get the flowers
I've altered that saying to "It's the thoughtful gift that counts."

We don't really spend a lot on gifts. We both buy what we want or need when we need it, so it's hard to think of gifts for each other. We usually go out for a really good dinner instead.
