Woman sues Nassau over affair w/ Cop
Is she for real??
Link to article
A Massapequa woman who claims to have spent "over 100 nights" with an on-duty Nassau County police officer has filed legal notice that she intends to sue the county for $10 million. Tara Obenauer, 42, said in court papers that the county failed to supervise Officer Mike Tedesco, allowing him to visit her home regularly for about seven months until February, almost always during his shifts, in his uniform and while driving his patrol car. During some visits, he removed his gun belt and left it unattended near Obenauer's children, court papers say. "If the county had exercised minimal diligence in supervising its employee, they would have discovered what he was doing long before," said Obenauer's attorney, Frank Perrone, of Garden City. He said Obenauer is set to give a sworn statement in the case Aug. 2 and has until next May to file her formal complaint. The notice was filed May 7. The notice of claim says Obenauer has "suffered severe . . . emotional and psychological damages" and is "too scared to leave her house fearing that Tedesco or other officers may retaliate against her." "Before this incident, she was a well-respected vice president of a Fortune 500 company successfully raising two children on her own," Perrone said. "Her reputation has been completely tarnished." The notice, which also names Tedesco and the police department, claims other officers covered for Tedesco during the affair. Sources have said Tedesco was caught when neighbors reported seeing a cruiser parked in front of Obenauer's home for hours every day. Tedesco retired April 6 without permission from the police commissioner. Since then, sources have said, the police internal affairs unit has been looking at additional claims against Tedesco, including allegations that he and other officers had sex with a woman in a van while on duty. County Attorney John Ciampoli described Obenauer's claims as meritless. He called it "ironic" that Obenauer, who had a consensual sexual relationship with Tedesco, would sue the county. "There was a police cruiser parked in her driveway," he said. "She appears to have gotten something from the county that other citizens did not." "It appears to be a frivolous lawsuit," said Nassau Police Benevolent Association president James Carver. Nassau police spokesman Kenneth Lack said the department does not comment on pending litigation. Tedesco could not be reached for comment.

Re: Woman sues Nassau over affair w/ Cop
The b@lls on her to sue over a consensual affair!
The only thing I could see is if she wanted to end the affair & he went off the deep end. In which case - -Did she register any complaints against him with his department? Were the complaints ignored?
Putting aside my feelings for the plaintiff, I think this statement was out of line: "There was a police cruiser parked in her driveway," he said. "She appears to have gotten something from the county that other citizens did not."

I don't really think that particular quote was out of line....it was a consensual relationship, no?

It was a consensual relationship, so this lawsuit DOES seem frivolous. Could it be that the relationship ended badly? If she is embarrassed, she has her own self to blame by having a relationship with him and allowing him to do that. It's simple - she could have said "no, not while you're on duty." It's called common sense.

IIRC, isn't she the one who "outed" her identity a while back to Newsday?
I remember there were reports that the cop was being investigated for inappropriate behavior on duty and then all of a sudden, Newsday had an article about her.....

Re: Woman sues Nassau over affair w/ Cop
Wow... he's married, and he was too ignorant to know that after 22 years on the force, they had GPS records of where his car was going....
It seems like she's upset that he lied about his wife, and that she got caught and exposed in all of this.
http://dealbreaker.com/2012/04/stripper-turned-financial-services-vp-teaches-long-island-cop-a-thing-or-two-about-hard-work/#more-74917
In 1992, Tara Obenauer was a dancer at a now-defunct gentleman’s club called Stringfellows. The Long Island native had graduated from Adelphi University the year prior and was set to attend law school but, she told the New York Times for an article titled “Topless Bars For A Crowd In Pin Stripes,” “The money here is just so good. I can make $1,000 a night or more, if I really work at it.” Obenauer worked hard for the money a few years longer and following a brief interlude as a stay-at-home mom, received her MBA from Hofstra and got a job at Guggenheim Capital Markets, where she spent five years as a compliance officer before joining Forbes Private Capital Group as a Vice-President. If Mike Tedesco, the Long Island police officer who used to two-time his wife with Obenauer had taken a page from her playbook, maybe he would have been lieutenant or something by now. Unfortunately, none of Obenauer’s can-do work ethic rubbed off on Tedesco and this had to happen:
“He would be at my house for hours during his shift, hanging out in his uniform on the couch, watching TV with my kids, taking a nap,” said Obenauer, who is single. Her children are from a previous relationship; the officer is married with two kids. “He was stealing time from the county for six months. He [would ask his pals to] take his calls.’’ Obenauer, 42, of Massapequa, said Tedesco, 43, got defensive when she confronted him about his no-show work habits. “I did ask him why he wasn’t out working.” Obenauer said. “We argued about it, but I’m not his mother and I’m not his supervisor. “I’ve been doing this for 22 years,” Tedesco bragged, according to Obenauer, a vice president of a global financial firm. “Let the f–king newbies chase these kids from their parties and go to house alarm calls.’’ She said he called the other cops his “assist *******.”
The under-cover operation came to a screeching halt when a suspicious neighbor blew the whistle. Tedesco, 43, was suspended after cops compared the neighbor reports with GPS records from his squad car. They showed at least 57 visits, sources said. Obenauer said that when Internal Affairs detectives showed up at her home Feb. 9, she at first though Tedesco had been shot. But the news they delivered was nearly as bad. They said her boyfriend “was a fully married man” with no intention of divorcing his wife. “I was devastated,’’ Obenauer said. “It had been years since I had let a man into our lives. This was an extreme level of betrayal. It was all lies.’’ Tedesco later called her to ask what she told Internal Affairs, she said. “He screamed at me, ‘You f–king tell them that I’m just a friend who stops by once in a while,’ ” Obenauer said. “I told him, ‘They have your GPS records, you moron. I’m not perjuring myself for you. We’re over, and I want my key.’ ”

That's what I was thinking. He probably tried to break it off with her and this is her payback. Ridiculous!
Not that he was right for having the affair while on duty, but this really sounds like a case of sour grapes.

After reading the previous article and finding out he is married, it just makes it look more and more like she's bitter about the fact that he didn't disclose that he is married. So, this is her leverage.
He did something wrong and cheated taxpayers by committing adultery while on the clock, so he should be held accountable. As for her, the county doesn't owe her anything, in my opinion...exactly what is her stance on this and how is she defending this lawsuit? What does she think she is entitled to?

If she honestly didn't know he was married then I think him getting busted by the neighbor is revenge enough. I can't imagine how hurtful it would be to find out the person you are dating has a whole other family and marriage and is one big liar. I would want revenge and him getting busted IS the best revenge. Her going after the county for money just makes her look like a skank..to me at least. She should revel in the fact that he was busted and move on, she isn't entitled to any money. Should the county be held responsible because someone wasn't doing their job to make sure this dude was doing his? Yes but not in the form of paying this chick 10 mil. All the people in his precinct were affected by this by being less safe. If that's her argument then everyone in the precinct should get some money then lol

Re: Woman sues Nassau over affair w/ Cop
There is nothing illegal about her bringing a civil suit (I don't see how she will win, but nothing illegal)
The DB in this story is that "officer." I could give a sh!t about his affair, but 57 visits to her house? watching TV? having sex, etc? while getting paid with taxpayer money? Plus taxpayer money going into his pension which he is now collecting? He is the problem...not her.
If I were a Nassau resident I would like to bring a suit against his pension for failing to serve and protect!

It's disgusting.
The cop's wife should sue Tara Obenauer for 10 million dollars for "severe . . . emotional and psychological damages".

THANK YOU....Don't point your finger at her (although this is total retribution and she's wrong too), HE was TOTALLY unsafe, unprofessional, unethical, and any other "un" prefix you can think of. That's just plain stupidty and an embarassment to good cops who work hard. REALLY? You have that much time on your hands as a so called "cop" to engage in this on duty while other cops are expecting you to have their back and citizens are waiting for you in their time of need? Don't get me wrong, I could really care less about 2 adults engaging in an affair....that's his problem with his family to deal with - good luck on that one. As far as she's concerned, who knows what she really knew going in to it - her problem with her kids to deal with. In the big picture though, he affected his whole entire career, reputation, department, the profession, and the safety of many people including his own. NOT a cop in my eyes.....

Seriously, he's an arse. And he retired quickly to preserve that pension! He's a disgrace. Misconduct on the job should automatically negate a pension like this. Disgusting.
I still think she's an idiot for suing.
