I need to get this out...
We put our cat to sleep Saturday morning. DH and I have puffy, swollen eyes, and have been wandering around the house, missing his little face.
I know--I KNOW--we did the right thing. It was so bad Friday afternoon into Saturday. Friday night was the longest night of our lives. I couldn't wait for the vet to be open so we could put him out of his suffering.
We loved him so much. I haven't cried like this in ages. Please tell me we did the right thing or offer your words of experience.

So sorry for your loss! But most times with pets you just KNOW when it's right to put them down. You did the right thing so your kitty didn't have to suffer anymore.

I'm so sorry!! I felt the same way when we had to put down my cat last year. We all knew it was the right thing to do, but it was still so hard for all of us. From what you are saying, you DEFINITELY did the right thing!

You absolutely did the right thing. I know it's so hard to lose a pet, but it's worse to see them suffer needlessly. I remember someone posting a poem on this board about it and it was beautiful and so true. I believe the original poster said it was posted on a board for horse owners, but I feel like it rings true for all pets.

I am so terribly sorry for you and your DH's loss, it hurts so much. You definitely did the right thing, as incredibly hard as it is.

I am so sorry. My cat died in the middle of the night in December we were basket cases. You did the right thing. Word of advice, if you go to Rainbow bridge you will cry your eyes out and do not keep on the speakers. No one told me this and it made me feel worse.

I'm so sorry for your devastating loss. You did the right thing, I'm sure. I had to put my cat to sleep and a few days later I lost my beloved grandmother, whom I was extremely close with. It was a rough time and to be honest the pain I felt for the loss of my cat and my grandmother, felt exactly the same, if not worse for my cat because he was with me all of the time. I can totally relate to your feelings and want to tell you that with time it will be easier to deal with. You won't miss your cat any less but you will make it through the day with less and less tears.

Putting a pet down is the WORST thing to do!!! You absolutely did the right thing - it would be unfair and cruel to keep him alive and suffering.

I'm so sorry for your loss! Truly people who have gone through it really do understand how awful it is. Be grateful you had your cat in your life for so long and all the happy memories you shared, and that your cat is no longer suffering or in any pain or discomfort. Sending you lots of prayers and hugs for this sad and difficult time

You did the right thing.. its better to let them rest in peace and than to have them suffer. It will be one of the most selfless acts of your life.. it will be hard, you will cry and question yourself over and over.. but believe me you did the right thing. Lots of hugs and
