No actually it can be a craft of any type which can include photos. It can be just about anything that represents a letter. One mom is doing all foods. So she brought in Kale for K. I think she plans to bring in Lentels or Leeks for L.
I pick stuff that AJ can understand or identify. I had a cute $1 Ladybug mask on a stick thing I was gonna just have her color and be done but she looked at the ladybug and kept saying spider or bug. I'd say its a ladybug and she just shrugged it off. So I got a styrofoam Disc at Michaels and went with the Lollipop instead. I already had the 'sticks' and paint so its fairly easy. I drew lines, she painted (both sides). I poked the lollipop more than once trying to get that stick all the way through so I had to go back and paint match LOL but otherwise it was pretty easy.
I do projects because *I* like doing them LOL. I love the idea of thinking of new ways to represent letters. I also love showing her the 'science' of it. The process of parts make a whole. That some times it takes time for a 'project' to come together, like this one. She had to wait for one side to dry before doing the other side. Then she had to wait for that side to dry before we could put the stick and glue the sparkly strip on. I like projects because they give her a chance to have self-expression (she picks the colors) as well as experiment what will and won't work. Our kite had paint on one side only, she tried two sides and didn't like it. Its also Mom & Me time. I'm a FTWM. I dont have the money or time to send her away to a ballet, piano, martial arts, gymnastics or other cool classes. She's stuck with me. LOL So this is our time to be creative and bond. It gives her a sense of accomplishment. When she sprained her ankle I had to take her to a doctor on a Friday (presentation day) but FIRST i just HAD to go to school and drop off her Umbrella project "so my friends can see" I love that she is gaining self confidence, self esteem and self worth. She can point to all the parts of the project and say "this is how we did this" or that. She can say "I did this" the pride in herself is priceless.
I did pictures for A. A for AJ & Apple. She loved coloring the apple and pointing to all the pictures of herself but I will be honest I think she likes her dragonfly the best so far LOL.
