I'm so appreciative to have a home but its so exhausting at times between the maintenance, repairs, daily cleaning, landscaping, decorating...Not to mention expensive.

I've spent the past few days freshening up paint (trims and such) and working on turning basement into a playroom

It's like the work never ends and neither does the endless cleaning!

Just had to vent.

I agree! We've been in our house since March 2012 and in that time we have completely gutted and expanded our master bath, painted every room, re-did the hardwood floors or put in new carpeting; had a bazzilion trees taken down, upgraded the electric and changed all of the elctrical outlets, converted from gas to oil, put in a pool and a new driveway, put up a new fence, had central air installed and put up a retaining wall. (plus all the little things like new mailbox, garage door opener, light fixtures, etc.) We recently bought the tile and vanity to re-do another bathroom - work to start later this month hopefully. And, I feel like there is soooo much more to do and that there is never enough time or $$$ to get it done! And yes, I feel like I am cleaning all the time - there's always something that "should" be getting done.

We've been in our home for 12 years. It's still never ending.

Our yard is ripped up every other year for one thing or another. Guests come over and rave about how fortunate we are to have our property and backyard, but what they don't know if how long it has taken and how much $$$ it has cost to get it to that point.

I keep meaning to print our a before & after book of our home and yard so that family and friends can see why we're always so busy. Chat Icon

Can we all vent on how having a home is exhausting ?

Just thinking this the other day! We've been here for almost 2 years with no issues but this week we started getting an infestation of flies! They just suddenly appeared out of nowhere and were all over the ceiling. So we sprayed and set up traps and just spent the night in the basement. The next day we come home and I started sniffing to see if it still smelled like spray but it smelled like someone lit a fart on fire lol. We thought it was just a residual smell from the spray and decided to just bring our dinner downstairs. We start to head down and the smell got worse! It smelled like something was burning! Since I'm PG, DH said to stay upstairs so he could investigate. He traced it to the boiler room where there is a sump pump (looks like a sump pump but it basically takes the waste from the downstairs bathroom and pumps it up and out into the septic tank). DH said there was smoke coming out of a hole where a white gasket used to be. We called Roto Rooter and $800 later, we find out that the motor to the pump got clogged with waste, overheated, and died. It was so hot, the gasket melted and got sucked into the pump. So that totally explained why we smelled what we smelled lol. The plumber guy said that usually people notice flies when it gets clogged. At least that explains the flies!

Yes! We just bought our house, but everyday there's another bill in the mailbox. We replaced the vanity and toilet in one of our bathrooms, only to find a leak from that bathroom into the basement because the wall behind the tub and the floor is rotted out. So now we have to gut it and put down a new subfloor too. It's constant time, constant work, constant money. And cleaning? I just can't keep up.

we've had a leak for 2 months now. no one can figure out where it's coming from. we've had plumbers and AC guys. there's a possibility that it is a leak coming from somewhere else in the building that has found a path to our apartment (we are in a condo) but of course how do you figure that out, unless you have the plumber go to each apartment?!?! i'm so over it!!

Yes. For us the headache is times 2. We bought a house in the city and also bought one on an eastern Long island beach community. Constantly something is an understatement.

Our house is almost 100 years old. I feel like we have done work every minute of every day since we purchased it, but because 99% of everything has been done ourselves, it takes 10x more time to complete.

Can we all vent on how having a home is exhausting ?

It's been more irritating than exhausting for us. We bought a house that was stripped to the studs and rebuilt. The guy who did it bought out a whole little neighborhood and is doing all of them, but ours was the very first house on the market. As such...well, there's been some issues.

We had sewage back up and spill out all over the floor because they hadn't cleared out the main pipe from the house and it sat vacant for 7 years.

The sinks in our bathroom have been leaking since we moved in...I actually think that DH has FINALLY gotten that under control, but I'm literally talking about both sinks, both leaking, on and off since March. DH had to take the shelf out of my vanity because it looked swollen from all the water it had absorbed and he was afraid it was moldy.

We live in a two family, and our smoke detectors are connected (theirs go off, ours go off too...its code). Well, they are really oversensitive, so they go off quite often. The answer we've gotten is 'take a vaccum to them and clean them out'.

Parts of our backyard turn into a swamp if it rains too much.

There's a couple of trees on the property between our fence and the VFW's fence that have ivy growing all over them, and I'm afraid they will weaken and fall on the house.

But...where on Earth are we gonna get the money to take care of all this stuff????
