Tell us about Barry Goggin Construction and the history behind the.

We started out in 1978 doing small repair projects such as windows and doors, and over time our jobs eventually got larger, ranging from house extensions and dormers to bathroom remodeling and kitchen remodeling. In 1985 we built our first custom home from the ground up and have done many more new home construction projects on Long Island since then. We are licensed and fully insured in both Nassau and Suffolk, providing you peace of mind while you place your home in our hands.

Our goal has been to provide home improvement of the highest quality at a reasonable price. We have never wanted to be to be one of the biggest Long Island contractors, but have strived to be one of the best.

What sets your company apart from other home improvement contractors?

One of the things which we are proud of is that we have kept the same name and home improvement license for the past thirty plus years which is unprecedented in this industry. I have worked hard to build a reputation as an honest contractor and have won many awards recognizing my work and dedication, including the prestigious National Contractor of the Year Award.

We have also been actively involved with The National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) since 1989, which is a not-for-profit trade association that is committed to enhancing the professionalism of the remodeling industry and more importantly serving as an ally to the homeowner. I cannot stress enough to any home owner that you should always choose a contractor who is NARI certified, whether it's us or somebody else.

In addition we have experience working with construction and 203K rehab loans and are a Wells Fargo preferred vendor.

Our staff is top notch and is always ready to assist clients and we have an on-site architect to assist with our home remodeling projects.

What home services do you specialize in?

We specialize in all areas of home improvement, from kitchen and bathroom remodeling, to extensions and dormers to complete home renovations and new home construction. We also do finished basements and garage conversions.

What do you enjoy most about helping a home owner bring their dreams to life?

There are many things we enjoy about the process.

We know how scary a home remodeling project can be no matter what the size; the costs involved, the disruption to your home and life, the time and frustration involved in picking materials and all the other things that come along with a remodeling job. Being their every step of the way, explaining the process, making sure the home owner understands and is happy with everything along the way is very gratifying for us.

Every job is different and every client has different tastes and wants, and seeing the look on their face when the job is done and knowing we have exceeded their expectations gives us the most enjoyment.

Do you have any home-care tips that you pass on to your clients?

To take care of your biggest investment and stay on top of any and all maintenance so the little problems do not turn into big problems. If you can't get to it yourself or are unsure of how to do something, call a professional, even for small things like cleaning out your gutters or making sure your windows are properly caulked to avoid leaks. A big one we see a lot is poor bathroom caulk or grout. From time to time check the grout and caulk around your tub, toilet, sink, etc. for cracks, missing pieces, peeling, etc. Maintaining the grout and caulk will avoid leaks and waters damage to adjoining walls or the ceiling below.

A few dollars today will save you a lot of money and grief tomorrow.
