Wills? Who gets the baby?
I know that this is morbid, but when did you guys make up a will? Who did you and DH decide will get your baby? What went into your thinking? DId you both agree?
When DH and I had the conversation the other day, I couldn't believe how quickly we agreed that my inlaws would get our child. We asked them and they accepted, on two conditions. The first condition was that they would have to live in the greater NY Area, as this is where my parents are and I want to make visitation possible for them. Also, I am assuming we would be buried here. The second condition was that the baby be raised Jewish. My inlaws are athiest, for the most part. I want our baby to have access to religious clergy should she need it.
I cant believe that I just couldn't in good faith give the baby to my mother (who is single and enjoying her single life), my father who is newly married (my step mother would end up raising her- thats not really fair), my sister is too young at 25 and lives off my parents financially and my brother in law (DH'S brother) who is getting married to a girl I don't really know. I would feel uncomfortable having her raise my kids. Plus, our siblings wants kids of their own and I would feel bad impinging upon that with their significant others. I might reevalutate this in a few years as our siblings and parents age. Did anyone else think like this?

mY MOM would get the kids until my brother (or shall I say IF) my brother ever gets married then he would get them. I would choose my ILs in a heartbeat but my mom is already retired and my ILs have about 5 years before they can even consider it and my mom has more financially to support the kids, god forbid, something happened to me and DH.

we have never discussed it, but since no one is around here in GA except DH sister...I guess her. BUT, if it were up to me, my best friend back in NY.
I thought they were supposed to go to the godparents?
(I WOULD NEVER let my parents or my IL have our children)

We havent discussed it but it would definitely be MY parents... then one of my sibblings if they couldnt take care of the baby.

After 4 years we still haven't done this. We have talked about it & I'm pretty sure it would be my sister & husband. But, we never asked them. That is something I will definately do when the twins come.

No this is a misconception. The godparents simply sponsor the child and help welcome it into the church and help to "guide" them along religiously.
Although since the godparents are often people that are very close to you and you would trust with the life of your child, it can end up that they are the same people you would want to raise them should something happen.
We haven't done it yet, I don't think either of our parents would be able to handle it. We need to talk about it.

I actually have my Sister and BIL. Our parents would not be able to handle it. My sister would raise my child or children in the manner that i would.

If anything happens to my SIL and BIL I get my 4 nephews (I have 2 daughters)
It will be a huge family

we haven't discussed this yet butI know we might have a problem I think he would want one of his sisters but I am not sure if I would want he raising my daughter she is not financially stable and has alot going on in her life
I think I would want either my parents since they are alot youngerthen his parents or I might want my one brother this is something that we would really have to talk about

we've discussed this and it would definitely be my parents. My kids adore them and there isno one else my kids would even consider going with. If my parents were unable to care for them it would definitely be my SIL and her husband.
