Re: anyone take Fremara?

Femara is not in experimental stage, it's actually been used for quite sometime now. The problem was that it wasn't being covered by insurance as a fertility drug. It thankfully is now. It's much safer than clomid and more expensive. That's another reason why doctors so readily prescribe clomid (inexpensive). I wrote about it an earlier post regarding clomid. I just cut and pasted some of what I wrote specifically about femara.

Femara or Letrozole is a medication that's used for breast cancer patients that went through menopause. Letrozole is now being used to treat endometriosis and uterine fibroids and induce ovulation. Letrozole doesn't thin out the uterine lining or dry up cervical mucus so that if you are actually opting to do IUI , you can still BD at home as well and not have CM issues. Or if are not doing IUI but need ovuation assitance it works well. Letrozole leaves your bloodstream and doesn't stick around the way clomid does. Therefore, cysts rarely occur from femara use. The side effects are usually less noticeable, but some people do complain about hot flashes and moodiness and headaches.

Clomid and/or femara decrease your estrogen levels and that's what triggers the brain to release more FSH and therefore, more follicules develop. Again both these medications have to go through the pituitary gland to stimulate the ovaries so if your pituitary gland is dysfunctional, you may benefit more by injections. Injections stimulate the ovaries directly.

Re: anyone take Fremara?

exactly what redstar said. I was taking Letrizole. It seems to be the "new" clomid.
I liked it much better than Clomid. I had NO side effects because it leaves your system quicker than Clomid which is why the no side effects.

Re: anyone take Fremara?

I haven't taken it yet, but as of next cycle I will be...along with Bravelle injections.
My Dr. did not say anything about experimental, but she did mention that insurance is just now covering it. Also, that it doesn't thin out the lining, reduce CM and less side effects.
Hopefully it will be the solution to our problems!

Re: anyone take Fremara?

By experimental..I shoudl have clarified I meant in treating infertility as its used now for breast cancer. I just have heard very good things about it from people who have used it, but not much online about affects long term..but the positives seem to out weigh any negatives...

Re: anyone take Fremara?

My doctor prescribed in as part of my second IVF cycle. I got much better results and had no side effects from it.
