Questions about breastfeeding, and pumps...
I had a single breast pump on my registry which I did not recieve at my shower...I was planning on just going and buying it myself, however was told I was better off renting one from the hospital...??
I plan to do both breast and bottle feed, and only for the first 2 months... What are your suggestions???? Has anyone ever heard of renting a pump from the hospital... (I think its part of the le leche program...???) How much does it cost??? Is it a good idea????
TIA

Re: Questions about breastfeeding, and pumps...
I was going to do this and I never put a pump on my registry because I didn't know what I would need or want so I decided to wait until the time came.
I decided I was going to give the baby both breast milk & formula but I was only going to bottle feed. So I looked into renting the hospital grade Medela pump. I heard it was around $80/month to rent but I'm 100% sure. I gave up on it when I realized that I wasn't going to be pumping all that much anyway since I was also doing formula.
I wanted to give the baby breastmilk for about 6 weeks and that's what I did using the Medela single electric breast pump which costs about $80. This one worked great, it was just a little loud.
If you plan on giving the baby exclusively breast milk for 2 months (not supplement with formula like I did) then it might benefit you more to rent the Medela pump because you'll need to pump alot more.
Good luck! Image Attachment(s):

Re: Questions about breastfeeding, and pumps...
my best friend breast and bottlefed her first for about a year, I think.
her 2nd she exclusively BF for 7 months.
She rented the hospital one because she was told any of the ones you can buy don't compare to the hospital ones.

Re: Questions about breastfeeding, and pumps...
If you go to lalecheleague.com you can do a search for a leader in your town/area. My mom was a leader for like 30-35 years and people would call her and she'd set them up with renting them. If you go on the website they should give yuo the phone number to a leader, and then you can go about renting various types of pumps from there. The leader should be able to recommend something that is along the lines of what you are looking for, depending on how long you want to breastfeed for.
If you need any more info FM me because I think you are in suffolk, and my mom is in ronkonkoma, so even though she's inactive as a leader she keeps in touch with her lll friends and might be able to help you out.

Re: Questions about breastfeeding, and pumps...
I have the pump that Sandra posted and it worked ok (like she said it was really loud). Then I rented a hospital grade pump (Medela Lactina) from a pharmacy for $50/month. It worked great. I was able to pump both breasts at the same time and it was so quiet. I found local rental places from www.medela.com

You can also try contacting a lactation consultant - many of them rent various models of pumps.
