anyone have a pet bunny?

we just got one for my stepdaughter, its SOOO cute!
Do you keep yours indoors & outdoors? Anyone ever do litterbox training?

i used to have one, i kept it indoors. the thing was a poop machine, make sure she cleans the cage VERY often!

ETS: I didn't know they could be litter box trained - that would be great!

I had one growing up. He was outdoors during the summer and indoors in the winter.

I loved him.

He was litterbox trained - which takes almost no effort other than putting the litterbox in the cage with him. They figure out what to do pretty quickly.

We have two. We keep them indoors. One is litter trained; the other is not - she absolutely refuses to use her litter pan for anything but sleeping in.

They're fun animals - but a lot of work (esp. keeping the cage clean).

Oh my gosh, Bunnies are my life.....I am looking to get the shirt that states "All of my children have paws". I have had bunnies for most of my life. At the moment, I have two. One of them is kept indoors and he is litterboxed trained. He has a litter box in his cage and he knows to go in that corner or spot. My other lil guy is outdoors. He's been out for six years. He is not trained, however he does go in one corner. The only problem with having rabbits outdoors are the weather conditions. He's sooo used to being outside, however when it is really hot or really cold, he comes in. In the winter, I plexi glass the cage, use a huge pool tarp which is bungee corded on to his monstrosity of a house and I'm out there defrosting water.....or in the summer, putting ice cubes in. I would definitely suggest keeping it indoors. The only reason my guy is outside is that I still live at home with my parents and I don't have the type of house to have two of them in. My indoor bunny was a adopted and he was originally an indoor bunny. My parents don't like the fact that he's inside (they tend to smell if you don't keep up with the cleaning) Also word of advice some times the males spray like a cat would when they urinate.....definitely stains wood.

I used to have a bunny She was by buddy and a great pet. Yes you can train them to use their box, however I never let her stay out unattended, because she loved to chew and sometimes dig. But as long as we were around to watch her she was fine and loved to be around us and jump around our feet. She really had so much personality and more than most people would give a bunny credit fpr having.

I had 2 when I was younger... Dionne and Sabertooth. They both lived outside. I had harnesses and leashes for them and I used to let them hop around the yard on the leash. The outdoor cage I had was built by my grandfather. There was a sheltered side with a small doorway for the cold and they had lots of hay. There was also a part of the cage with wire sides. If you keep it outside make sure there is no way for wild animals to break into the cage.

I have a female mini-lop named Trix! She is absolutely the most woderful pet! She is an indoor bunny and has a huge 3-story cage me and DH made out of closet storage cubes. She likes to chew, so she has a huge pen to run around in that's attached to her cage so she can still go in and out to use her litter box, eat and drink, but not chew the furniture.
It's really VERY easy to litter box train a rabbit. They naturally like to go in one place, so once they find a corner they like, just put a litter box in that corner and they will naturally go to the bathroom there. Also, if you rabbit is not litter box trained, take any stray fecal pellets and put them in the litter box. If he/she urinates outside the box, soak it up with a paper towel and also place a piece of it in the litter box. They will eventually get the idea.
Another thing to remember: if a rabbit is not spayed/neutered, it is almost impossible to prevent them from srpaying and urinating/defecating outside of their litter box. Once they reach about 3-6 months of age, they hit puberty and just forget all their good litter box habits.
Once my bunny was spayed, she went back to going ONLY in her box.
Another tip: rabbits like to eat and poop in the same spot. They poop as they eat, so it's also good to keep their hay rack right above the litter box so they can eat and poop in the box. Sounds gross, but it really works!

PS: Unfortunately, I am also looking to rehome my bunny because DH is allergic to her hay and my brother is also coming to stay with me and he has asthma and is allergic to rabbits. I am in no rush to give her away and will keep her forever if I can't find her a good home, but if anyone is interested in adopting another bunny, please feel free to contact me. I would love to find her a home that will love and spoil her as much as me and DH do.

AAWW, she's SO cute! Thanks for all of the great tips everyone. We are deciding if she should stay an indoor bunny, or go outside in a fancy hutch.
Nicole wants her to be a girl, so she named her Sophia Noel, LOL I know its a big name for a little rabbit!
