Re: When you go to work do you put your dog in a cage?
We crated our dog until she was about 1.5 years old. At first, she would pee/poop in her crate despite us coming home every 2-3 hours to let her out. We were at a loss until her trainer suggested that we make the crate smaller by adding a panel (they sell them at Petsmart) or using a smaller crate. The dog should only have enough room to turn around otherwise they use part of the crate as a potty. We added the panel and it worked wonders.
We gradually stopped using the crate by leaving her out for short periods of time. She hasn't used it for about 4.5 years and she's been wonderful. I think she just naps all day (in our bed if we don't shut the bedroom door) and watches the squirrels through the window.
