ATTN TEACHERS
Does anyone know about the loan assistance for thse who work in high needs districts? What districts on Long Island are included? I think William Floyd, is that true? How do I find out more about this? TIA

I just started in William Floyd, and have not heard of this there at all. But I know that Brentwood does this ( I am 99% sure). I believe they are considered an inner-city school now.

Re: ATTN TEACHERS
There are very few districts on LI that participate in the loan forgiveness. I know Brentwood is one and I think Wyndanch but that is about it. Most districts do not qualify.

Re: ATTN TEACHERS
There is a program called Teachers of Tomorrow. If you work in a "high need" school you get $3400 each year for the first four years you teach there. I know some school districts on Long Island do qualify for it. If you go to the TeachNYC website there is a link to TOT. I work in a NYC high school that qualifies and the extra money is nice. Also if you teach in a "high need" school for 5 years part of your student loans are forgiven.

I also work in a school where I get this. The extra $$ in June is very nice!
The loan forgiveness program is great in theory, but there are a LOT of loopholes - (i.e. you can't have any students loans as of 9/1/1995), which eliminated almost everyone in my building from benefitting from that program.
