I really need some help girls.....

I am ashamed of myself right now. I just keep getting heavier it seems since my wedding in October. I had major surgery last year and just cannot seem to lose the weight I gained while recovering. I work out like crazy with a personal trainer and do cardio and see a nutritionist and NOTHING! Has ANYONE had this experience and can they offer any advice? I'm just so upset with myself, my clothes don't fit and I can't stand the way I look. TIA.

Have you seen a doctor? If you've really been trying and still not losing weight, maybe you want to get your thyroid checked out?

Also have you tried writing down what you eat? I mean EVERYTHING. I thought that I was eating well/dieting for awhile and wasnt losing weight and then I started writing down what I was eating and realized how little snacks and bites of things were taking a toll! So now Im more aware of every bite I take.

Good luck!

What exactly to you eat every day? Do you mind telling us how much you weigh? You may be eating too little or too much, etc.

Also, what do you eat before and after your workouts?

What does a week workout shedule look like for you?

All these questions must be answered to find out what may be wrong.

Well, I'd rather not tell you my weight but I can tell you I am tall at 5'10". According to my nutritionist, I should eat about 2000 calories a day and complex carbs, no bread, pasta, etc. I drink lots of water and I do cardio 5-6 days a week. Strength training 2-3X a week. This is the newest thing. I sometimes have setbacks because my lower spine is fused and sometimes it's easy to overdo it.

I now workout on an empty stomach in the morning (cardio) and drink a protein shake afterwards with some oatmeal a little later on.

I've had my thyroid checked only to be told it's sluggish but not underactive. I tried Synthroid for six months with no change at all.

Thanks for your help.

wow! 5'-10"?? I wich I was that tall! Chat Icon

2000 calories sounds way too low! that is probably your problem. a 130 lb person needs to eat 2000 to maintain and you must me more than that at 5'-10", I am asuming. you are going into starvation mode, which is why you cannot lose weight. you shoudl really ask your nutritionist why she is having you eat so little.

do 2 really intense cardio sessions(HIIT, a few hours after you eat something) and do 1 or 2 sessions of regular cardio.

these 2 things will help.

I do my cardio before I go to work. 45 minutes to an hour of cardio. When do I do the HIIT? When do I do strength? Thanks, just confused.

Re: I really need some help girls.....

You should do them any time, just make sure you are not doing it on an empty stomach and DO NOT do HIIT on a day you weight trained your legs.
HIIT it only done for 20-15 minutes, tops.

HIIT...
1. warm up for 5 minutes on treadmill
2. run AS FAST AS YOU CAN for 30 seconds
3. Walk fast or slow jog for 60 seconds
4. Repeat 8 times total.
5. cooldown for 5 minutes- slow jog or walk
it only lasts 20 minutes. this is one timing, the other is to run 20 seconds, then walk or slow jog 40 seconds, and repeat 12 times. you can alternate these each week or so.

I am still concerned about your calorie intake per day.

Re: I really need some help girls.....

I'll let snowboardgirl answer the HIIT part (because she does it and I don't Chat Icon ) but I'm pretty sure that she'll say to do HIIT and nothing else that day. It's pretty intense and you'll be totally exhausted.
After that give yourself a rest day, and then the next time you work out, do weights and then cardio (regular cardio) afterwards. Have you tried spinning? It burns a TON of calories. Any cardio workout that uses the legs like that will burn a lot of calories.

Have you been lifting heavier weights? Or can you not because of your spine?

2,000 calories IS a little low if you're working out hard and are that tall. I'm 5'7" and ~120 lbs and eat around that much, give or take.
Does the nutritionist have you eat 5 - 6 times a day? (regular meals + snacks)

I also think that you're doing too much cardio and not enough strength training.

P.S. DON'T be ashamed of yourself! We'll help you figure this out! Chat Icon

Thanks so much. I am beyond frustrated.

I do eat 5 small meals and I can't do the heavier weights because of my spine. What would you change the cardio to?? TIA

I wouldn't do cardio 5 - 6 days a week. Maybe do HIIT 2x a week and regular cardio 2x a week. Try spinning or another form of interval training that isn't as intense as HIIT.

Strength training 4x a week. (You can do days where you just do strength training if you want).

I'm no doctor so I can't tell you what to do about your back, but maybe find out exactly what you can and can't do as far as lifting weights. You biggest muscles are in your legs and back, and the more muscle mass you have, the more calories you'll burn. If you can focus on making those areas stronger (without hurting yourself!) you should see some results.
I'm not saying to neglect your other body parts, but if you're limited on how much you can do, I would focus on those areas and worry about the rest when you get stronger.
