If it was that bad, I wouldn't have done it 8 times

It ALL sounds way worse than it is

Re: truth about IVF!

I am about to embark on the IVF journey - but I did do IUI's with injectibles and they aren't terrible. You get used to it real quick. From what I can see, the Progesterone shots are the worst part, but at this point I'm happy to deal with it for the end resultsChat Icon

I agree, even the progesterone shots are not as bad as they seem,

Re: truth about IVF!

The worst for me was WAITING for DH to give me the progesterone shots. He would dilly dally and it drove me insane.

Make sure you have all of your meds (I didn't and this caused some stress).

Other than that, you just have to stay calm and it not bad at all. The shots rarely hurt, and the retrieval and transfer are both a breeze, IMO.

It was so worth it for me -- even the huge $$$$!! Chat Icon

Re: truth about IVF!

The injections I did myself were easy. You think they are going to be a lot worse than they are. The first one is tough because you hesitate, but after the first time, you barely even think about it.

The only ones I didn't like were the Progesterone ones, for the same reasons Kara named. DH would get nervous and not stick me as quickly as I wanted. We finally agreed we would count and he would do it on 3 so it was better. They only hurt for a minute.

To me, the thought of retrieval was terrifying. But it was the easiest part. Best sleep I had in weeks and it was over before I knew it.

If I had to pick the worst part though, it was getting the IV started. I have terrible veins and they had to put it in my hand and that hurt LOTS. But that's just because of me, not everyone has that experience.

It honestly isn't as bad as it all sounds. If you are organized and determined, it's all very easy.

This explains it exactly I think.
I am a big needle baby. I did what my doc said--I did my first injection with a cocktail.
I actually thought it was not bad once I understood everything.
I also used numbing cream for the big injections--so I never felt a single thing

Re: truth about IVF!

The worst for me was the progesterone shots. I don't know why, but they made me really really sore. It got so bad that one day I stayed home from work because I was in so much pain. I could hardly move my one leg. Maybe I got so sore because of my muscular booty! Chat Icon
I don't know - I tried everything to make it better, but nothing worked. Finally my doctor prescribed suppositories, so I'd use that one day, and the next day do the shot. That helped a LOT, so remember that if you need to do the same.

Otherwise, the other shots were not bad at all. The needles are very tiny and all you feel is a little prick.
The retrieval was the easiest part of all for me.
