Just got back from the doctor. What would you do?

I called because I was having pain- it felt like period cramps. It was really bad in the middle of the night and a little better this morning, but it still hurt.

So they told me to come in, and checked my cervix, which he said is fine. Then he said I can't work for a week.

I really do not want to take a week off of work, and I don't think it is really necessary. I have been trying really hard to save my benefit time for my maternity leave. What would you do?

I think I am going to take tomorrow off and go back monday.

I would really listen to the doctor. You really don't want to jeopardize anything. JMO though...

I agree. The doctor wouldn't suggest it if they didn't think it was in your's and your baby's best interest.

Did he say why you cant work?
If your cervix is closed I wonder why he said not to work unless he thought you were having contractions.
I went in a few times for pains and they never told me not to work once they saw everything was normal.

If you really don't want to take off work why not call him back and talk with him about it and see what his reasoning is.

I understand wanting to try to save your time.

Does your job require you to be on your feet all day??? If so than I would probably listen to the doctor. They try to be as cautious as possible.

I totally understand wanting to save up your time too. I would call him and ask him why you can't work. Depending on what it is you do (are you on your feet all day?) it might not be a big risk to go back. And if your job involves alot of walking or standing, etc he could write you a note that you have to be on "light duty" for the week.

Can't hurt to call him and ask. If I were in your position I would do the same thing - try and work as long as it's safe. Good luck!!

Agreed!
I also understand you want to save your time but you have to see what is best for you and your baby at this point. I would also suggest you talk to your doc, but if he is firm with you taking the time off...definitely do it! IMO

Re: Just got back from the doctor. What would you do?

Maybe you could talk to your dr about it but I think if he really wants you to stay out of work for the week, you should.

I went for a regular check-up at 34 weeks. I told her I was having period like cramps, nothing too bad but often enough. The put me on the monitor and saw I was contracting. They checked my cervix and it was CLOSED.

Fast-forward a week to my next apt. Still having period cramps, nothing more severe just annoying. They monitored me again, still contracting. Checked my cervix JUST ABOUT 100% EFFACED in ONE WEEK!!!!!!!!!! This sent me to the ER whcihc landed me in the hospital for 8 days on lots of meds and complete bedrest.

I don't know if this is why he told you to take it easy for the week but just be careful!!!

Re: Just got back from the doctor. What would you do?

I would definitely call Dr. back and ask why he suggests you stay out of work for one week. If you let him know that you'd rather or can't take the week off, maybe he will say, ok, just take one day and you'll be fine.

I understand you not wanting to take time off. But, if your doctor really wants you to take the time off I would listen to him. If you don't you might end up regretting it. Babies health comes first!!!

I agree. Ask him why. Tell him you'll rest tomorrow and all weekend. Maybe you can go to work on Monday.

This is true and if your doctor insists on your taking more time off - then i would follow his orders - but try to get alittle bit more information out of him. Good LuckChat Icon

Re: Just got back from the doctor. What would you do?

Thanks for your responses.

I did ask him why, he said- you should rest and take it easy. He also said to take an afternoon nap every day!

I asked if I was supposed to stay home or in bed, he said no, just relax.

My job is not really strenuous and does not require me to be on my feet all day, I do walk around a lot but I really don't have to, I can basically sit most of the day.

I really would never jeapordize my health or my baby if I thought it would, but my Dr. is really over cautious about everything I think.
