Jamaica or Puerto Rico

I am going to go on a trip in March and can't decide wear to go. We haven't been to either Jamaica or PR. Any feedback on the islands? We went to Aruba, Turks & Caicos and Nevis. So looking for something like these.

Recommendations welcomed :)

Re: Jamaica or Puerto Rico

I feel more comfortable in Puerto Rico. If you just want the beach and resort, Jamaica is OK. If you want to explore on your own at all, I would recommend PR over Jamaica froma safety perspective...

I totally agree. I was only in Negril in Jamaica and only felt really safe at the resort.

Re: Jamaica or Puerto Rico

I prefer PR, I was not a fan of Jamaica when we were there

Never been to PR

I have been to Jamaica and was not impressed (it could've been where we stayed though)

Jamaica!!! Also it depends on the resorts that you are staying. I always stayed at the top notch resorts and also the island is just lovely. It has its good and bad just like anywhere else in the world.

Re: Jamaica or Puerto Rico

I have not been to PR, but have been to Jamaica twice within a year-- for my HM and my SIL's destination wedding. I have also been to numerous carribbean vacay spots and I have to say-- they are all pretty much the same. What I can say about Jamaica is that the flight is great timewise and the people are absolutely wonderful.

Let me know if you want resort reccos-- we have stayed at Couples and Round Hill.

Thanks all for the feedback! After more research I found that the 2007 Cricket tournament will be in Jamaica..so we want to avoid the crowds.

PR looks good but wanted an AI and there doesn't seem to be any there?

Anyone been to Mexico? I found El Dorado Royale which is South of Cancun...it looks amazing!! Any feedback on this place?

Thanks again!

what about the dominican republic? quick flight, lots of AI's.

i went to PR twice.. i love it there... old san juan is one of my favorite places EVER.. its Amazing, imo. Cerromar and dorado beach are gorgeous... ithink i stayed at the hyatt there... beautiful. not AI, but they had restaurants, etc on the premises.

El Dorado is PHENOMENAL!! We went in July 05 for our 1st anniversary. We are actually going to Aventura Spa Palace on Monday which is in the same area. We would have loved to go back to El Dorado, but there was nothing available by the time we started looking.
