Rawhides
Someone told me this weekend they are bad for the dogs digestive system. Is this true? If it is, what do you give your dogs?
TIA!

Re: Rawhides
I had heard the same thing and do not feed our dogs rawhide. We use Nylabones.

Re: Rawhides
Tiny loves Raw hides. He eats them way too fast though. The doctor said that it is not good for Tiny to have rawhides because if he brakes off to big of a piece he can have some real problems.
I dont know what else to give him, because he is a chewer...and Nylabones just dont cut it

Re: Rawhides
They tend to gum up in a dog's digestive system and can create a blockage. We give Misty nylabones, real marrow bones and/or chew hooves. They all take a long time for her to chew and aren't a risk to her digestive system.

They sell them in Petco or Petsmart - they are basically cow hooves. Be forewarned: they stink...but your dog will love them! Misty chews hers down to little nubs, one keeps her busy for hours. Unlike the toy I posted about

Re: Rawhides
We do, but in small doses. I have to keep an eye on her when she is eating them. Once she ate a huge bone and threw it back up and what horrified me was that it was the size of a softball...

Re: Rawhides
Our vet said that *natural* rawhide is ok So I gave it a try, but now I NEVER give Bama rawhide anymore - he'd swallow large pieces but luckily he would throw it up. I only give him really hard bones or other things to chew on that he can't swallow.

Re: Rawhides
No rawhide for my pups. They get bully sticks & they all seem to be doing pretty well on them!
