Death Has Dulled Me And I Feel Bad About It....
Our cat is very sick and DH is afraid the cat will die. He thinks he's going to get a call tomorrow (cat is at the animal hospital) that he passed in the night. DH has been crying non-stop all night.
It's upsetting to me, too but I'm not crying about it. I love the cat too but I think my mom's passing has kind of dulled me to the potential of someone else passing. I'm sure DH knows why I am the way I am but still, I feel like I'm acting emotionless.
Just had to get that out....

I am the same way now. First, my father then my cousin died, after that it has to be a person really close to me to get me really really emotional.

You know, I had the opposite effect. Since I lost my dad, my son and my sister, I'm super-sensitive about ANY kind of death.
About a month after my son died, DH and I were on a boat and someone caught a fish. It was a HUGE fish and I watched it flap all over the boat -- knowing it was suffocating and I freaked out. I had to run into the cabin of the boat and I could still hear him flapping around outside and it was totally upsetting me. I mean, I was crying and all. I wonder if THAT'S normal...

I know exactly what you mean.....There are many times when I hear about people grieving over a distant relative or friend and I don't get it. ....hearing about someone else's grandma or great grandma or 4rth cousing dying doesn't have a huge effect on me...b/c I lost my MOTHER as a little girl....it almost feels like nothing can beat that...but I am effected when I think of the deceased person's immediate family.....even if it is someone that I am reading in the news.....
I am however deeply effected at funerals and wakes....no matter who the person is...I think it just takes me back.

I'm sorry about your cat but I agree with you. After losing your mother I think its hard to really feel anything.
