Measuring Butter

I like to bake recipes that are both metric and american measures, but sometimes its difficult for me to measure butter because our butter comes in blocks with no measuring units on the side. Does anyone have a good way to measure butter...I mean one thats easy and doesn't include me using measuring spoons???

Re: Measuring Butter

a stick of butter is 1/2 cup of butter or 8 tablespoons. So thats an easy way to break it down for your recipe

Re: Measuring Butter

Funny you should say this. I actually just saw in my Cooks Illustrated a gadget called a butter stick that has a ruler on it so you can measure out the right amount of butter when you don't have the wrapper.

Re: Measuring Butter

is your butter in grams? (duh, of course it is!!)

56 grams is equal to 1/2 a stick. 1/2 stick = 1/4 cup.

here they have gram measures on the foil. our butter comes in 250 gram blocks (i assume yours is the same b/c we are from the british). 50 grams is about 3/4 of an inch.

here is a helpful conversion site, they even have butter conversion! Chat Icon http://www.onlineconversion.com/

ETA- i think it depends on the way the block of butter is formed. some are thinner or bigger than others.
