We'd loooove a dog, seriously, we are in withdrawel since this is the first time in our lives that we are living without a dog and taking into accounts our lifestyle, we are on the 'smaller the better' end of the breed/mix spectrum. Is there a chihauha rescue site that anyone knows about?

Again, we're just thinking, but also trying to gather info.

Re: Chihauha/chihauha mixes

Our dog Tiny is a Pure Bred Chihuahua. He is Fawn and White.

He is loveable but also likes to play, and sometimes he can get a little rough with Danielle and I.

He is really good with our nieces and nephews though. He loves to play fetch and give kisses to them and they also love Tiny so much.

He is a really good watch dog. He is also like a nosy neighbor, because he always seems to have to know what is going on outside. As soon as he hears a noise or sees something he is in the front window barking up a storm....or buy the sliding glass doors in the back of the house.

Saturday there was a cat on our deck and tiny was at the back doors jumping up and down to get at the cat.....

He scared the cat away......funny.

Chihuahuas can be loveable as anything.....but they have a ton of energy. So if your looking for a lazy dog, this is not a breed to look into.

My friend has a 2 year old chihuahua and she has calmed down a lot. Tiny is 1yr and 3 months right now and he is still in puppy mode.

My friends dog is 3.5lbs and tiny is 9lbs.

Please don't buy from Shake a paw or a store like that.....Try to adopt one.

Temperment: It all depends on the dog.
Training: Took us 3 weeks to train him to not go to the bathroom in the house. His last owner let him go all over the house. Now he goes to the door and scratches to go out.
Eating: We feed him 2 times a day. He is always hungry though. Chihuahuas are scavengers.
Health Issues: Get Pet Insurance. We learned the hard way. He had rabbit feces in the back yard and it cost us $1200. Just make sure whatever pet you get that you have Pet insurance. Better to be safe than sorry.

Socialization with other dogs: Where Tiny used to live there was a Chocolate Lab and a cat, and he loved to play with them. When we send him to our pet sitter, he starts off a little scared when he first gets there, especially if there is a bigger dog there, but after 5 minutes he is running around and playing with the other dogs...He loves to run around and play.

Socialization with children: Like I said above, he is great with the kids. You just have to watch him.......Because he can play rough.....

If you have any other questions, dont hesitate to ask

Bruno is pure short-haired Chihuahua, but I think his temperment is different b/c he was a rescue.

He is very playful, and loves to be surrounded by toys. He is great with my other dogs (I also have a Pug, Shiba Inu & a Chinese Crested). He can be intimidated by new people in my house, and if approched too soon & without a treat he has been known to nip out of fear. He barks ALOT and has a very strong voice even though he is only 5 lbs. He eats like a dog 3 x his size & has a very healthy body type. Health issues to be aware of are an open Molera, which can be very dangerous if it does not close all the way. It is nearly impossible to tell if the dog will have an open molera or not until they are at least 6 months.

They stop growing at 7 months - a year and can range in weight from 4 lbs & up. They also can have eye issues & hip/knee issues. Earlier testing can see if the dog is prone to either of these. Expect 2 - 4 visits to the vet a year for toy dogs, and annual shots.

Re: Chihauha/chihauha mixes

my brother just got chiweni? it's 1/2 chihauha and half weiner dog

it's the cutest thing I have ever seen- it's so cute and playful

friendly, it likes to chew on things- esp flip flops- which is funny to me b/c when it walks down the stairs- he sounds like he has on flip flops- he is long with short legs

he was very easy to train

normal pic- he had an infected tear duct

Re: Chihauha/chihauha mixes

Beth thanks for reminding me - Tiny is a very agressive chewer. Thank god we have a lot of toys around the house for him to chew on. We have had a few issues with him though....He chewed up our front window sill and the carpet on the stairs, and the wood banister to name a few.

You have to watch them at all times and especially when you arent in the room with them and they are quiet. That usually isnt a good thing. It is just like having a child

The CACC has a lot of chi's and chi mixes up for adoption.

Don't buy while others die, adopt a shelter pet today.
