Cat keeps licking her.... bum.

For the past couple of days, my kitty has been licking her bum 4-6 times a day. In the past, I'd just see her do it once in a while, not this much. I don't know if I'm just catching her in the act more, but it seems like everytime she wakes up from a nap she goes for a lick. I looked down there and I dont see anything unusual, no worm residue, hanging BM's or anything. She's been using the litterbox normally, and its the usual consistency. I dont see any missing hair, or excessive redness.

If she wasnt such a difficult cat I'd take her to the vet tonight/tomorrow - but she wont let anyone touch her, so we need to give her a tranquilizer. Problem with that is, we can't get her to eat the pill. In food, bruteforce down the throat, nothing works.

My husband of course says that I'm making a big deal about nothing, maybe her butt is just itchy and we should wait a couple of days to see if she stops. The other 'wrench in the works' here is that next weekend we are going away and are leaving her alone with an overflowing food bowl.

So what do you think - am I making too much of this? If this licking has already been happening for 2 days, how many more days do we wait before trying to giver her the tranqulizer and take her to the vet. Since it turns into such a big deal, I'd rather not have to take her to the vet if I dont need to - just because she gets all anxious and upset about it.

I wish I could say something other than..I've observed that Raindrop does this often after she craps.

Yeah, this was much more then after that, it seemed like it was all the time.

It might be a little better today and last night. When I got home from work I started touching and some fluid kind of came out (TMI, I know..) but I have a feeling it was from her anal glands. I only saw her lick once last night and none today.

So I am thinking maybe her anal glands are/were clogged, and she is licking to try to relieve it.. and since there was a little change back there maybe she resolved it on her own.

Haven't seen her lick today, but then again its only 9AM. I've already tried to get back there again to see if there are any changes, but she is getting wise at us looking at her butt all the time.

my first thought is worms. i would get her a de worming pill just in case.

Kitty was given her tranqulizer (we effectively hid it in her treat this time...) and she has a vet's appointment at 6.

This Kitty Mommy is scared, DH is telling me she is acting like she is drunk.

Same thing happened to my Bonnie
We got really scared because we lost our 6month old kitten "Sparky" and since then we've been paranoid about the kittens.

After $125 check up from the vet who knows our fears...

Nada, nothing, zip, ziltch

She's fine.. still does it from time to time. I think she's gonna lick her fur right off

They thought it could have been a skin rash/infection. Or urinary tract infection.. but it was none of those.

Just got a call from my husband, the tranquilizer didnt take - they can't get her out of the carrier. We have to bring her back tomorrow morning and they will knock her out totally and do a full exam. Due to the color of the discharge from the anal gland area they think she at least has an infection.

Luna got back from the vet last night - she had impacted and infected anal glands. They also said that she had some hairballs stuck in that 'area' also. They cleared everything out, gave us antibiotics and sent us on our way. They said that the hairballs may have clogged up the anal gland entrances, which caused the fluid to backup which caused the infection.

She's so mad at us, and its really sad. She was still groggy last night but was so scared that we were going to grab her that she would not goto sleep. She would nod off and wake herself up. I layed down in bed early last night so that she came over and finally went to sleep. DH slept on the couch, since she really despises him now and he wanted her to get a good night's rest.

She woke up at 4am all lovey dovey and ready to go, she licked her butt again but I bet she's sore from all the prodding back there.

Next fight - 10 days of antibiotics, 2 pills a day.

It's too bad she doesn't get wet food because Raindrop really doesn't even seem to notice she's eating that pill everyday.

Some people say your cat can't tell the difference in wet foods, I disagree

Buddy (the older one) can't stand the smell of fish food. If he is hungry enough he'll start to eat it but then he stops and will go hungry..

Bonnie & Clyde: Love all and every flavor.

Buddy is now on special diabetic diet food but he LOVES it..thank god.

We have our cats on Dry Food only in the morning then a mix of dry and wet at night. (per our vet recommendation)

We have to do this at 6am and 8pm because Buddy's insulin shots are every 10-12 hours and since Buddy cant eat normal cat food, no food is left out and the kids are fed in a different, closed room from Buddy at feeding times.

At first the kids weren't happy with us. Very vocal and scratching the cabinet door with the food inside, but after about a month they got used to and now they SCARF their food down.
