SHG-updated!
AF finally showed and I can now officially start getting my IVF cycle going. I have to go friday for a sonohysterogram. Can someone tell me about it. Does it hurt, and can I go to work afterwards? TIA!
Update: Well it wasn't so bad. A minute of intense cramping, similar to the HSG. But over really quick! And no pain after it was done. Looking at my ER & ET 2nd week of March! Yeah!

Re: SHG
I think its HSG histosonogram -mine didn't really hurt - 2 tylenol really helped
The only reason I would say not to go back to work is that they use this dye to see if the tubes are open and its a bit gunky (thats a technical term)

Re: SHG
The SHG is different from the HSG. The HSG is for the tubes, the SHG is to check the uterus. I had both done. None were extremly painful but I thought the SHG was more uncomfortable than the HSG although they say that usually the SHG is easier. Now me I'm a big chicken and if I did both of them so can you. After the SHG I was perfectly fine...no cramping etc. I would definitely recommend taking 3 motrin before hand. My dr. also prescribed me a pill of atavan (sp?) to help me relax. Good Luck!

Re: SHG
The SHG was uncomfortable. Take some aspirin before you go to the doctor.

Re: SHG
I had both HSG & SHG and with both I experienced pain. Basically, it is a lot of cramping. The good thing is that the procedure is over with quickly. I think you will find that most of the girls on the boards didn't really experience much pain. Good Luck!

Re: SHG
I have to agree, the test was easier then the HSG but I did have some SLIGHT AF type cramping afterwards ( which wasn't too bad b/c ook Tylenol before the test)
good luck- these tests are so informative
ETA- it was over REALLY quickly

Re: SHG
I've only had the HSG-the most uncomfortable part for me was the pressure from the speculum. I had a slight burning type cramp when the dye was injected. After I really had no pain at all. The HSG shows your tbes and the shape of your uetrus so they can see if there are any abnormalities.

your describing the hysterosalpingogram. The saline sonogram (I think) is what she means. The one they do in the office at the start of an IVF cycle.

The HSG involves dye (u have to let them know if you have allergies to shellfish) and is usually done somewhere else besides the RE's office....at least mine was. The SHG involves saline being injected and can be done in the RE's office.
