mass for anniversary
can anyone please tell me why my family has to do this again. i could see why they did it last year..it was her first year anniversary but do we have to do this every year now? i feel like all my family is doing is living in the sadness and i'm sad enough already every day i wake up. am i being harsh or cold hearted if i don't go. i just don't want to dredge it all up again and cry all day long again. i cry enough as it is..sorry needed to vent

Re: mass for anniversary
ever since my mom died 11 years ago. every year on the annivesary of her death we go to mass. i personally HATE doing this. like you said i am upset for the whole day and it brings me back to the day she died and i really dont like it, BUT i do it for my dad, he likes to i guess sort of honor her this way every year, so i do it for him. maybe you can do it for your family. thats what i do. and it makes me feel a lil better.

Re: mass for anniversary
Last year on my dad's anniversary which was 1 year we had a mass and we are having one this year which will be in a few weeks I think its nice to do and even if you don't have a mass every year its still going to be a sad day and bring back the sad memories of that day.

Re: mass for anniversary
I guess everyone handles it differently. I actually enjoy going to anniversary masses b/c it celebrates my mom's spirit. Friends and family join us and then we have breakfast afterward. I think it's a good way of keeping her spirit alive.

Re: mass for anniversary
My dad sets up masses for my mom a few times a year. her b-day, their anniversary, anniversary of her death. I don't attend. It makes him feel better. it makes me sad.

Re: mass for anniversary
well i didn't go and i feel badly that i didn't but i just couldn't do it. i would rather have a mass for her birthday then to go and have a mass for her death. i just don't want to be recognizing that i guess.

Re: mass for anniversary
My mom has a mass for my brother every year on his birthday and on the anniversary. It makes her feel better. I don't like going, cause it brings back all those emotions, but I do it for her. She doesn't want to feel like he is forgotten...
