I have to post this because I'm dumbfounded.

I can't even believe this myself, but I think up until last week, I have never known what it's like to NOT be hungry. I'm serious. I think my whole life has gone by and if someone offered me something to eat, I would probably eat it think I was hungry. And ever since I've gone all organic, cut out all processed foods and high fructose corn syrup, I FINALLY know what it's like to say, "No thanks, I'm not hungry."
I mean, of course there were times when I knew I was full or didn't need to eat, but I really have stopped eating when I'm not hungry. I don't know why I'm so amazed by this, maybe because I'm finally breaking a lifelong habit, but it's the most wonderful feeling to not be hungryChat Icon

I completely understand how you feel. Once you get all that "junk" out of your body you feel so much better.

I've seen such a difference with organic too. It's difficult to cut out everything unprocessed because I work full-time but 75% of what we eat is organic now. DH and I feel a lot better and we're not as hungry as much.

Re: I have to post this because I'm dumbfounded.

Hi girls! Sorry I took so long to get back to this post.

We went cold turkey to organic foods, and there was definitely some backlash.
I had posted last week abotu some killer migraines, and it turns out that it was my body basically going through withdrawl from all that processed crap I was eating. My dr. said that's exactly what she would expect to happen when I spoke to her.
Anyway, I really decided to do this because I make all of Ava's food from organics and I felt like, why am I not doing it for myself? I had also been trying and trying to lose weight, yet, I wasn't really losing all that quickly, so I figured it couldn't hurt to switch. I read that high fructose corn syrup is basically what's making us so overweight as a country and that when you eat it, it makes you crave even more. So, I started to notice that it was actually in all those "healthy" foods I thought I was eating.
Since organic foods do not have any processed junk, I figured it was the surefire way to get away from the HFCS. I really attribute my energy to not eating HFCS.
Anyway, I buy all organic meats, milk, eggs, produce, cereal, bread, broths, grains, etc.

I think that the most important things to buy organically are the produce, milk, eggs and meats. The last three because they have no hormones or antibiotics. I am convinced that we have a country full of 9 year olds with ginantic boobs because of all the hormones in the things we eat everyday. I do not want that in my body or my daughter's body.

Anyway....
I have spent three weeks shopping nothing but organic and it's really not all that expensive. Stop N Shop has a great selection and it's all reasonably priced. I even buy organic grahm crackers and frozen yogurt for snacks. I just think that if I do not invest in my health now, I may not be around to enjoy my children and hopefully their children. I'm sick of eating junk because it's easy and convenient and cheap. I'm much more willing to spend my money on healthy foods than anything else.

That being said, I still had a slice of pizza last night, and I swear, I feel like sh-t today. My body basically rejects junk food now. It's the weirdest thing, and if it's psychosymatic, who cares?Chat Icon

I hope that helped. If you have any questions, let me knowChat Icon

Re: I have to post this because I'm dumbfounded.

Isn't it GREAT? Chat Icon When I met hubby I had the WORST eating habits on the planet. He, on the other hand, is super health conscious (sometimes a little too much, but I give him leeway because his father died of a heart attack at a very young age). I'm not a cook, nor do I do the food shopping, so when I moved in with him, I took on his eating habits. It was a struggle to begin with - it almost felt like detox Chat Icon But, for three years now, I avoid processed foods, sugary foods, and try my best to eat organic, whole foods, and incorporate fruits and veggies everyday. In the last 3 years, my health has improved DRAMATICALLY - I rarely get sick - maybe a cold, but that's about it - and I've lost about 10lbs, without even thinking about.

Organic food is the YUMMIEST - last year we joined a farm co-op - I think it cost about $500 for about 8 months, and each week they deliver fresh, organic produce that will feed a family of 4+ for the week. It's a great way to impact the environment, support local farmers, and get your yummy organic produce - if you continue to feel inspired, I HIGHLY suggest it!

We bought organic chicken and it had a completely different taste--like the grain I assume it was fed. Is this normal? It was disgusting and we threw it away.

I don't think that's normal. I'm not even going to tell you what chickens are regularly fed, but antibiotic free chickens fed a vegetarian diet should taste better. At least, that's what I think.

I don't think thats normal either.

I either notice no difference at all in the taste of organic foods or that they are better.

So many people have made a funny face to me and said ewwww organic? How does that taste?
I'm like, if you ONLY knew what was in reg food you would not be making that face! Chat Icon

Awesome Rachel! I have been slowly making the change to all organic, but sometimes convenience prevails.

TOTALLY NOT NORMAL! To me, organic chicken tastes juicier and more like chicken. If that makes sense. I would go to the store and complainChat Icon
