High Risk
Are you automatically considered high risk when you are having twins....The sonogram tech told me that last night...I am just a little confused.

Re: High Risk
I guess it would depend on your doctor. I wasn't until they found I had a shortened cervix at 24 weeks. That's when I started to see a high risk doctor (and my regular OB).

Re: High Risk
I only became high risk at around 5 1/2 months - up until then I went only about every 3 weeks to the OB (but I did get a sono each time). I got 5th's disease and they wanted to make sure the babies didn't become anemic. Toward the end of my pregnancy I went to my high risk OB 3-4times/week.

Re: High Risk
I was considered high risk from the get go. I've seen the doc every two weeks since week 8 and now at week 31 I go weekly.
I'm not sure as to the exact reason. When I first saw my OB he structured the info we discussed at our first meeting into four categories... regular pregnancy, risks assoc. with IVF/ICSI, risks from multiples and risks associated with being over 35.
I'm assuming one or more of the above qualified me, according to the medical/insurance community for the high-risk category even though I've been doing really well.

Re: High Risk
I was never high risk until 33.5 weeks, when I was admitted to the hospital with preclampsia and delivered two days later.

Re: High Risk
My doctor considered me high risk when it was found out at week 10 that my boys shared the same placenta. I started going to a high risk OB starting at week 16 and went for sonograms every 3-4 weeks. After week 30 i got NST every week and a sonogram every other week.
It was due to the sharing of the same placenta that they took the boys at 36 weeks because they thought one began to take more blood flow from the other one.
I have no idea if my doctor would of sent me to a high risk OB if my twins had seperate placentas.

Re: High Risk
Because mine shared a placenta also we were considered high risk, but I barely saw the high Risk Dr except when I had issues. Every sonogram and reports from my regualr OB went to him.

Re: High Risk
My doctor didn't consider me high risk - in the beginning I went to the ob monthly - it wasn't until around 30 weeks that I started going every week to either the doctor or to get a sonogram and stress test. He actually thought I would go full term - as in 40 weeks. I ended up having them at 37.
