Re: Sperm specimen

we were able to take ours in on weekend hours the lab within the doc office.
There must be weekend hours,
if not..have dh do it before work and immed leave. They have to have early hours.

Re: Sperm specimen

Dh did his thing sealed the cup and we brough it into my Re's office. They had a dropoff window between 7am-10amM-F.

We were told to have me put the specimen cup into my bra ( against skin) to keep the sample warm for the commute.

Explain to your dh that this test is the easiest and least evasive test that can be done when doing a fertility workup.
Just tell him how much information will be learned.

GL!

yup. I think my DH has done it 20 times in the past two years. The first time he was uncomfortable, but after seeing everything I had to go through he sucked it up!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Now he is a proChat Icon

Maybe he can do it and you birng it in (if that clinic allows that). NSUH has an andrology lab in the clinic and I know they accept GHI. I believe they open at 7 for drop-off.

Re: Sperm specimen

i consulted my dh and he said "it's the least he could do." he said the one at home, is easier than the one at the hospital with all the porno mags and the nurse waiting outside, but it's nothing compared to what we (females) have to go through. actually she wasn't waiting right outside, he had to call her on an intercom and say "i'm done!" we brought ours to the re's office (li-ivf) on a saturday too.

good luck to you and dh. Chat Icon

Re: Sperm specimen

The only thing I can think of is that he'll have to go into work late one day.... With his Insurance GHI, Quest does it but only collects specimens in Syosset by appt. only.... and it's not near either one of our jobs.... So Stinky :(

NSUH Center for Human Reproduction has a lab in Manhasset and they take GHI. I believe they are open on weekends as well.

You can call and ask 516-562-2229

Re: Sperm specimen

My hubby has had no problem with this. Compared to all that I have to go through with appointments and drugs, a lil sample in a cup was no big deal to him. He just went into work a little late, and we took the first appointment at the lab each time he needed to provide a sample. Actually, he would even get excited to hear his count was high or whatever, LOL...silly man.

Good Luck!

Re: Sperm specimen

My DH had a slight problem with this. I think he really didn't want to be the blame AT ALL for us not getting pregnant. We ended up scheduling an appointment for a Saturday to do the semen analysis.

If he wants a child just as much as you, all avenues need to be explored. Its good that your RE is being thorough and not just thinking it must be something to do with you. 30% of couples who are having trouble getting pregnant are due to male infertility.

Good luck to you!

ETA: Stony Brook Hospital's Andrology Lab is open on Saturdays, also. The number is 631-444-3473. I believe they take GHI.

Re: Sperm specimen

My husband has had to go to a sperm bank, because on top of my infertility issues he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. As a result we need to bank for the future. He has been about 10x and says it isn't bad. This month will be the first where he does it at home for IUI.
