Follow up today

Had our follow up today and contrary to my own memory my FSH in July '06 was 7.8 and last Jan was 9.0 or 9.2 (estradol was good both times too) - Dr gave me an RX for a new FSH next month. I am totally at a loss as to why I'm not getting pg, and honestly, I didn't get any indication from him as to why

Based on that , he will re-examine our case

I asked him about why he thinks we're not pg. He says its the eggs, and that my lining measures well for each IVF.

He does not want to make any decisions until the next FSH result. In the m eantime, there is nothing to do (in his opinion). I asked about other treamtments - and he said I was getting their protocol for high fsh and poor responder

If my fsh comes back under 10, he suggests another IVF, between 10 & 12, maybe not, and oper 12, he suggests donor eggs...which run to about 25K - I guess we should have thought of that before we ploughed 40K into a home renovation.

I told him what Dr Herschlag said at the ET ("you should consider donor eggs") and he truly seemed shocked and apologized profusely

So, it seems like we are on hold until the next FSH..in the meantime, our insurance covers 1 more IVF and is accepted at SIRM and Cornell, so I am going to request copies and look into that

I also spoke to DH about telling our families - its so hard to hide it and I am so tired of hiding it. We need to figure that out

I am also quite upset that its my fault. DH doesn't see it that way, but I do and its not helping my state of mind

Thanks for listening

Helen

Re: Follow up today

Im sorry you feel its your fault. I did too, but I knwo in my heart its not. Its just how it is and we have to accept it.

I would go for the consults elsewhere, to ease your mind about getting the best care when it comes down to only one IVF covered under the insurance left.

Im not sure that its FSH. I mean thats not very high. Im surprised at that diagnosis.

UGH, its so frustrating. I hope you can find a way to make sense of it all somehow.

Hang in there. Wish I could offer more advice. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Helen I just wanted to send you some Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I think it is a good idea to see another RE....your FSH isn't that high sometimes a fresh view is a good thing. Another RE may see something that was overlooked. I don't think IF is anyones fault and I hope you don't blame yourself. It sucks that you are going through this but you are amazingly strong! I'm glad your insurance covers another round of IVF that is excellentChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

DH ad I have this whose fault is it conversation all the time. It would be so easy to have someone to blame.

I think its a great idea at this point to get some other opinions. You did get PG last time, so thats gotta mean something.

As for the house renovation, I am glad you did it, we put too much on hold dealing with this-life cant stop around us. If you decide to do DE you'll find a way. Renovated house or not.

And I think it will be easier when you tell your family. Having to answer questions is so hard.

PS- When is your trip????

First off, Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon to you!

Second, If I were in your shoes, (which I was), I would seek another opinion. With only 1 more paid shot at IVF, I would want another persepctive on my situation.

Third, other then the ladies on this board, no one knew we were undergoing fertility treatments. I didn't want people feeling sorry for us when our attempts failed, and I didn't want my fertility status to be the topic of conversations or be told that I'd burn in hel, as the church does not approve of IVF (there are some real holy rollers in DH's family). Looking back, I think I deprived myself of much needed support. It's a tough decision to make, to tell or not. I'm sure you'll make the right decision for you.

Glad you're getting another opinion.
Enjoy your vacation!!! I loved Ireland. DH thought I was going to fall off the Cliffs of Mohr. OK, so I was a little close to the edge, but it wasn't windy at all. Chat Icon Maybe telling your families will be a good idea. Tell them that you don't want it to be the topic of discussion all the time. You just wanted them to know and that you'll need their support.

Re: Follow up today

I agree that you should definitely seek a 2nd opinion.

I think you are right, it may be time to let your families in- they will help support whatever you will be going through.

Hang on to your dh and enjoy your trips, together you will plow past anything.

I really hope for the best for you

I know how hard it is to not get answers! We also decided that if this cycle didn't work we would go to Cornell (our insurance doesn't cover) I felt that maybe there were other answers that I was not getting from Dr. Chang. It is always good to get another opinion.

Also, in the book Inconceivable, the author writes a lot about moderate FSh and what she did to bring it down. This may be of some interest to you. I can send you the book if you like!

Enjoy your two trips! Enjoy your new renovations! I am heading that way myself in the next few weeks!

Know that we are here and I hope you get the answers that you need!

Re: Follow up today

Hi! your fsh does not sound high to me either-it's towards the upper range but not over. I may start sounding like a broken record here, but have you looked in to Dr Toth?

he has 2 e-books you can read and he has some very interesting theories. For myself I would look into him before going donor eggs. Good luck!Dr. Toth's website

Re: Follow up today

I understand how you feel about fault. I feel the same way and DH and I have the same conversations. I also agree that you should consult with someone else, a fresh point of view can't hurt. Your FSH doesn't seem "too" high, but again, a different RE will help you with that. In the meanwhile - enjoy your new home and you upcoming vacations!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I just want to send you some hugs Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon DEFINITELY weigh out all your options, so glad you are looking into another opinion.

As far as telling others about your struggles, I think it may help. Only you will know that, but this is probobly one of the most emotionally draining experiences you could have, and that is SO difficult to hide.

PS....it is NOT your fault. michelle (redstar) made me feel really good one day when I was in the dumps. Our bodies are made to make and carry babies. Some of us just need a little assistnace, and it may take time , trial and error to find out exactly what is needed, but eventually for most the mystery will be solved, and in the end you will be holding a precious baby.Chat Icon Chat Icon Kepp the Faith Helen...Chat Icon

Re: Follow up today

OK I am in the minority here -- I don't think you should get a second opinion -- I think you should get a SECOND, a THIRD and even a FOURTH if need be. I agree that your FSH is not that high and perhaps they need to look into immunological issues more in-depth- not sure if you have had any of that testing done but SIRM (NYC) will do that before anything else, especially with your history.

Telling the family --- well you've told me enough about the ILs to know this is a very difficult decision for you. But I do believe that in the end, it will be a big relief for you. ANd if it is brought up and you don't want to discuss it, just say so. But let them know what is going on in a general sense so they can get off your backs.

Trips - any room in either suitcase?? I miss Ireland, it's been 6 years since I've been there!!
