Quotes of the day...
DH and I went out shopping today and we encountered some interesting folks... here are some of the highlights from our conversations w/ strangers. How would you have reacted/responded?
- "I think I would shoot myself if I had twins."
- "They're OBVIOUSLY fraternal. One's slim and one's a chunkum." Um, no, they're identical and only weigh 1 1/2lbs apart.
- "Enjoy the ride... it'll be a long one."
Can you believe these crazies?!?!?!?

Re: Quotes of the day...
My favorite is when I have DD and DH in their respective pink and blue infant seats, dressed very obviously as boy and girl, and people ask "Are they identical?"

OK.... here's what I would WANT to say...
"Even though you don't have twins, no one is stopping you from shooting yourself."
"Oh, you might not be a twin but I guess you are a chunkum yourself, then?"
"Thank you. Our ride, is more enjoyable now than we could have ever dreamed"
Of course, I think of these things now Maybe I should type up a list of responses so I can refer to them when my time comes.
People are really demented

Holy crap!!!! That is so horrible! Why do people treat us like freak shows? My gosh, it's only twins, it's not like I'm walking around with 8 kids in a stroller!

I cant believe how RUDE and THOUGHTLESS people are!!! We are so fortunate and these fools will never know. Melissa, I have the best response for you (I get that comment all the time). I saw it on a T-shirt... "If you think my hands are full, you should see my heart!"

When i tell popele that i am expecting twins and they see I have a almost 3 year old.. they say " are you going to have help"

Congratulations on expecting twins... one thing you'll learn early is to never take the comments to heart!

Re: Quotes of the day...
Some more comments and come-backs I read on another board...
Do twins run in your family? (They do, but does it matter - this is a "poite" way of asking did I take fertility meds.)
I'm glad it's you having twins and not me. (THanks, appreciate the support)
You have such a small house, where are you going to put them? (Like we didn't already know we had a small house - guess we can shove them in the garage?)
Get ready for a huge grocery bill. (So, it is more expensive to feed a family of five compared to a family of 3 - I never thought of that...)
Are you going to have your tubes tied when you deliver? (Are you going to have a labotomy?)
Oh my gosh, you are going to be so busy! (Really, that thought hadn't crossed my mind yet...)
Don't forget your 4 y/o dd is going to need lots of attention after they are born. (Thank goodness you reminded me about her - otherwise we would have forgotten all about her....)
How are you going to deliver? Are you going to breastfeed? (I have found that no matter what answer I give to these questionts there seems to be a great debate about which is the best. Isn't it a choice that my dh and I get to make and noones business??)
I got a "are they twins 'yes' Are they both yours" I just stared at the idiot what do you say to someone that dumb. No, I only mothered one my husband did the other one all on his own?
My absolute fav was when a lady asked what intervention I had to get twins I told her none so then she asked what position we used during sex to get twins. !!! I unleashed and told her I was on birth control. That was about the time her very quite and nice husband dragged her a way from me. I don't know him but I love her husband
Oh, and one more thing that irks me! When I was pregger with my natural, fraternal twins, everyone kept congratulating my hubby for his apparently amazing sp*rm! Wait people - it was ALL ME! I released the TWO EGGS! But, no, everyone thought it must have been the man and his amazing virility. I give up - stopped trying to correct everyone after a while. But it definately irked me!
My boyfriend likes to tell people that no we don't have are hands ful if you tape them together it is just as wasy as taking care of one.
We of course get the "are they twins?" every time we go anywhere! I am tempted to say, "No, we met online, two single parents and this is our first date, thought we'd bring the babies" and see what people say then! (I'm using this one )
I think the one that sets me off the most is the "Are they boys or Girls?" question when they are both wearing PINK and have PINK ribbons in their hair and earrings in both ears. Maybe these people are color blind? One day I was just toooo through and I responded by saying (no offence to anyone) "They are gay! Well, actually one is a hermaphridite (meaning has both genitals) so we just decided to pick a team!" It was so funny to see the look on those ladies faces I could have feel over!
If someone asks "are they twins?" I have a couple of phrases I rotate depending on what kind of mood I'm in. Try 'em out..they're fun.
1. "No- huh-uh." (Then just stare at them and watch as they stare back confused....since CLEARLY they are twins.)
2. Point at one of the babies and say..."Well she is, but she's not." (This really baffles them! Watch 'em try to figure that one out!)

Those are great!
I always get the "are they identical?" question. I just say - well he has boy parts and she has girl parts, so NO they aren't identical.

I can't believe when people ask about the breastfeeding-that is such a personal thing. My MIL asked me about it last night, I flipped out. It is none of their business.
I love the line we met online-I have to use that.

But how is it possible??? I guess I just don't understand it. So maybe my babies are identical? - Nah, they don't look that much alike. I didn't see the special.

I didn't get that either. I don't see how two people can have the same genetic makeup, yet have different parts.
The part i found fascinating is the thought that all left handed people are actually mirror image twins who lost their twin to "vanishing twin syndrome". Interesting for me because both my mom and her brother are left handed...and i have identical twins. Things that make you hmmmmm
