Long Update & Sonohysterogram

My dr. is sending me for a sonohysterogram after my next AF. I read up on this procedure online, but I would llike to hear any feedback from people who have had this procedure before.
I also asked about my low/borderline progesterone number - it was 11 at 7dpo. I am finding mixed info online. Some sites say greater than 10 is ovulating and others say it has to be at least 15 for ovulation. Chat Icon I am also receiving mixed feedback from my doctors office. When the nurse first called with the results, she said the progesterone level was low/borderline and that if I did ovulate, it was a weak ovulation. Now when I saw my doctor, she said the number is fine. I am concerned because I don't ovulate until at least cd25, and then at 7 dpo I get heavy spotting lasting through the start of AF. My dr. said the sonohysterogram might explain the abnormal bleeding. But I am still concerned about my cycle being so long and irregular, with the borderline progesterone number. Any feedback?

Re: Long Update & Sonohysterogram

It sounds to me like you may have PCOS...the long cycles and weak ovulation. I'm sure after the HSG your Dr. will have more info.
As far as the HSG, it's not too bad. Someone on here told me to take two Advil or Motrin an hour beforehand and it worked great. Very slight cramping but no real pain.
Good luck, hope you get some real answers soon!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

It does sound like PCOS. As for the Saline Sonogram, I did experience pain but the procedure is done so quickly. I think most girls didn't experience much pain.

The SHG is uncomfortable. You can ask your dr to prescribe you a relaxer to make it better. It wasn't excruitiatingly painful...just cramping for a few seconds but it's done so fast. I'm a BIGGGG Chicken and if I had it done Im sure you'll be fineChat Icon

I'm not too sure about the whole hormone level stuff, but the hystogram isn't bad, take a couple of painkillers & you'll be OK, good luck

Re: Long Update & Sonohysterogram

It definitely sounds like it might be PCOS. Has your doctor considered that?

I know nothing of the Saline sonogram, I've only had the HSG.

Good luck to you.

I had an HSG recently, which seems to be a different test. Mine was fine, just some cramping, but it was really only bad for about half an hour during and after the test, then it passed. Even then it wasn't so bad. I think it helped that the doctor performing it was really nice and understood that I was nervous.

If this test is similar, the scheduling is a PITA. You can only do it on certain days of your cycle, so it's hard to juggle your schedule and the doctor's.

Good luck!

My doctor doesn't think it is PCOS. My cycles are long and irregular, but I do have a clear thermal shft every cycle and she said my cd3 results were normal.
Those of you with PCOS, what were the results of your CD3 and CD21 bloodtests?
