I just found out Raisins are highly toxic to cats - UPDATE!
My Dh had some cereal last night and picked out all the raisins - I usually give them to the birds. So I came down this morning & half were gone, I then noticed that Chablis (one of our cats) was drinking a lot of water. So I called the vet and explained and was told to bring her in immediately. I rushed her down there asap. Apparantly raisins are extremely toxic to cats! Who knew?
The vet told me that not every cat reacts but when they do 2-3 raisins can kill them, it blows their kidneys & they shut down and there is nothing they can do about it. Chablis ate about 20.
They put her on fluids and gave her something to make her vomit. They just called to say she had vomited and they retrieved 21 whole raisins and a few bits. They are running blood tests and keeping her in for observation. I am worried sick. Poor little munchkin. I think she was attraced to them as they had dried milk on them from the cereal.
So if you have cats, just be aware that raisins are HIGHLY toxic! I have had cats my whole life and never knew that.
Vet will call me this afternoon for progress report. Chablis is the kitty on my avitar.

OMG- I hope your cat is ok- I would be so upset
but thank you for posting this- my DH loves to eat rasins and peanuts mixed together- and I get annoyed b/c he drops them on the floor- he needs to be more careful-

They just had all this on Rachael Ray this morning! Grapes are very bad for them too!

thanks for all the info- we had no idea
my DH will not be eating raisins at home anymore- he is too messy - he told me not to buy them- we don't want to risk our cats health
I hope your cat gets better quick

Thanks, I sometimes watch Rachel Ray, but not this morning I was at the vets!
Chablis is home, she vomited about 21 raisins whilst at the vets & the blood test was normal - thank God! She gave me such a fright.
I will definately be more careful in the future
