How much does it "cost" to...

neuter a 5 y/o dog? I am in the middle of adopting a 5 y/o dog and I just found out that he's not neutered. This is the FIRST order of business that I want to take care of, but haven't the slightest idea of what to expect.

It depends on the vet. My vet was $170 for the surgery & the re-visit a week later. I am very particular about the anesthesia methods used as I have very tiny dogs.

FM me if you want Vet info.

(ETA My old vet was $495 for the surgery.....I no longer go to him for a multitude of reasons, but the biggest being that I felt he was overcharging & was not that much better in quality).

There is a website
Friends of Animals

If you give them your zipcode they will tell you what vet in your area participates in their program and it's $90 to neuter your dog plus meds.
They are a non-profit org and the $$$$ go to help animals so it's a good cause.
We used them to spay Misty and the total cost for the spay was $150.

mine was more than $200 for my 5 year old peke. I think it depends on age, gender and size of dog, but I am not sure!

My 1 year old pug will be $174 dollars when we fix him.
