I need some interview tips for someone...

A family member is going on an interview possibly...I told her to wear black or navy suit, button down blouse, low black pumps. Now this is what I was always told for teaching, is this appropriate for all interviews or most interviews?

Also, her current job does not know she is looking. What should she say?

How many refererences should she have with her? I told her 3-4 including one personal....anyone else have an opinion about this?

TIA everyone

OK as far as the suit I think this is OK across the board. I dress a little funkier when I can but I work in an industry that allows it. They key is to look clean, prepared & professional.

She can tell her interviewer that her current job does not know she is looking, but that once an offer is made & accepted they can feel free to contact HR to verify employment.

3 - 4 references is great. One should be someone she took direction from, and another should be someone she gave direction to, if possible. I always include a personal reference, but it is from someone that had seen my work as well.

Re: I need some interview tips for someone...

I work in a very conservative field and in addition to the above, I always wear my hair back - usually parted on the side and pulled back into a lowish neat pony tail. I keep my makeup neutral. I also keep the jewelry I wear simple. I don't always wear a button down under my suit, sometimes I wear a white or off white or even a pale pink shell. She should also have a nice leather holder for her extra copies of her resume and any other paperwork she needs to bring. I also do not wear any perfume or eat any smelly foods the day of the interview. One more tip, I keep an extra pair of stocking in my bag just in case I get a run at the last minute! HTH
