When does all the action begin for September hiring?

I have sent my resume to probably 20 districts for a variety of positions (sub, leave, FT for Sept) and I have only heard back from 1 school. What is going on?!?!?!? Also, does anyone know if there are schools who are on OLAS but do not use it? There are so many schools with no jobs posted. I am just so anxious about getting a job in Sept.

I know the feeling. I sent out a bunch of resumes to schools posting in NYTimes and OLAS and I have heard nothing.

Same Here..i have been mailing out resumes and posted on OLAS and have heard nothing. I heard the schools start searching in mid-March? but not so sure. I hope i get something b/f June....that would be nice

They can start searching for potential candidates mid-March but often they don't know much themselves. Many of these interviews are in anticupation of positions but the schools really don't know yet.

Depending upon the district and position they might have to wait until the budget passes (which is not a given these days) especially if it's for a position that is in danger of being cut, a small district, or a district that has great problems passing budgets no matter what the fiscal climate.

Also, positions due to extended leave replacements or retirements are not necessarily known yet. Some potential retirees, or those out on leave, often have until pretty late in the school year to notify central if they are coming back.

I believe that the interview process in most districts starts right after February break and goes until Spring break. They usually induct new teachers at a spring BOE meeting.

Most districts only advertise for anticipated vacancies bc they don't know what will be going on until after budget time which in in May, and revotes are in June. I think most of the action happens over the summer.

I am sitting on an interview committee for my district March 20 and 22, so I'd say that the hiring process has begun in many districts....

march is usually the month that postings start up because it is the month they tell people if they are not coming back

Good Luck to everyone trying to find a position. I know what you mean my husband is in the same boat!! Sending resumes Olas etc. Good Luck Vibes to everyone!! Hopefully positive things will be happening over the next few months!!!

last year district my district didnt start a lot of the interviews until after the budget votes... i really think it just depends on the individual district...

Here in VA they might do some early hirings in Feb/March, but specific positions usually aren't hired until June/July.
