Re: how do you stop the jumping?
This was covered in puppy kindergarten last night.
EVERYONE must treat the dog the same way or it won't work.
When he jumps on you (or anyone) you IGNORE the dog until he stops jumping. Do NOT say anything, do NOT say "Sit" and then give a "good dog".
You MUST ignore the jumping until he understands he will get NO attention this way - and then he will PROBABLY sit on his own. THEN you can pat him on the head and say "Good dog".
You have to do this with everyone he jumps on, every time. He will eventually get it....or so the instructor says.
Also - training is constant - you can't do it once in a while, or just for a defined time period each day. It has to be all the time...

Re: how do you stop the jumping?
What we do is turn around and ignore Casey....complete ignore her. Or, you can put your knee up but I don't like doing that bc she thinks we are playing. So we tell everyone who comes to our house, if she jumps, ignore her and walk away.

We do the same thing with Luna. It makes me crazy when people encourage her to jump up

Re: how do you stop the jumping?
My dog still jumps but since he learned the WAIT command, it works in many situations and we can often use it to stop him from jumping.

This is exactly right! telling the dog no or sit is actually giving them a reinforcement, even though it is negative. You must ignore the dog & you must make sure that everyone that comes across the dog does the same.

Re: how do you stop the jumping?
Well, we tried the ignore thing for a very long time, but he wasn't listening and people gave up and let him jump on them. I gave him the knee like 3 times, and he has not jumped up on me again, but continues to do it to everyone else--he's no dummy, he knows he can do this everyone but me.

Re: how do you stop the jumping?
I read this in "do you speak dog" the dog wants to be on your level so he jumps.
If you crouch dow to his level he wont jump.
So whenever dh and I get home we squat down so we're eye level to Simba and he greats us with a kiss and then runs to the bedroom.

Re: how do you stop the jumping?
thats interesting maybe i'll try that but we can't ask everyone that comes to the house to crouch down (my parents are old etc)

Re: how do you stop the jumping?
NEVER pet or talk to the dog when he jumps on you. He ONLY gets treats or affection when he is sitting or laying down.
hope that helps. Everyone has to be on the same page with the training also.
