I couldn't get a job right away so I taught at a pre-school for 3 years before going into the public school system.

I got hired in a Catholic school (not where I wanted to be) Sept 94 after graduating in January of 94 so I subbed for nine months.

From day one, I kept looking for a public school job. It took 3 yearsChat Icon of constant searching and I started working in the public school system in Spet of 97.

I got a job immediately in Massachusetts. I never did student teaching because I was able to actually teach in MA and get my certification. Then, when I moved home to NY, I got a job immediately. I got a lot of offers and was able to pick where I wanted to work. But, as a music teacher, had I looked in a public school, I'd probably STILL be looking. Chat Icon Independent schools place a greater emphasis on the arts since that's what "sells" a school, so I had more opportunities to find jobs.

I graduated in may and subbed until June. Interviewed during the summer and got a part-time position in a great LI district, but it wasn't tenure track. I interviewed again that summer and got a full-time tenure track position for September again, in the school where I still work.
