Why are c-sections more common with inducement?

My Dr. warned me that if I go too late after my due date they'll induce, and there's a higher risk for c-section with inducement. I should've asked then, but I forgot... anyone know why that is? Why is a c-section more common when you're induced?

Re: Why are c-sections more common with inducement?

I actually just had this convo with the dr today...

There was alot of medical mambo jambo..but this is what I understood:

When you are induced you are put on med. to MAKE you go into labor...something your body and or baby might now be ready to do..(some peoples bodies never are..)

So your body is working extra hard to do something.. "unnatural" for the moment, and it sometimes makes the baby stressed out..or even your body... hence causing them to go in and get that baby out ASAP...

At least in my mind this is what I heard...she also said there are tons of times..where a c-section in not needed and not to worry about it being an option..

So who knowsChat Icon

Basically its kind of tricking your body into doing something it wasn't ready to do which is dilate and efface before it wanted to.

Induction is much more favorable if you are dilated and effaced than completely closed and you cervix is still thick.

Hmmmm... ok, makes sense. So, if they decide to induce me and let's say I'm further along, just not there yet... like 4 or 5cm and 60% effaced (just making this up, I promise!), there's probably less liklehood that it will end in a c-section than if my cervix was totally shut?

Basically. And I do believe if you are dilated past a certain point and "stuck" most doctors will try breaking your water before using pitocin.
