Need some help!
Hi all,
For my Master's research project, I'm working with a 6th grade student who has significant expressive and receptive language delays. I'm working on improving her verbal speech and getting her to improve her writing by adding in details.
Do you guys have any ideas of specific tasks I can do with her? I'm starting to run out of ideas. We base a lot of our sessions on journal writing and descriptive tasks.
Thanks!

What about brainstorm games. How many ___ you can come up with in 10 minutes. or something like that just to improve her vocabulary. I would also do a lot of vocab building. If she has poor expressive and receptive language she is not going to have a very expansive vocab!

Re: Need some help!
I would try teaching her to expand her utterances and written sentences by adding descriptives (there is a nice book by Pro-Ed called Describe It, though it may be too simple for her, it outlines all the different kinds of attributes and really breaks it down), adding a conjunction, and answer a WH- question. I'll start with topics of high interest then move more towards curriculum material. Plus, I get crazy when they independently display the use of the taught skill-I've got all sort of buzzers and lights to reward them!
