FH got an almost perfect score on the LAST and the ATS-W, but failed the CST (multisubject) twice before passing.

A lot of general math, science, english stuff. It wasn't bad at all.

I took it a long time ago (1995) and I found it to be very heavily reading-comprehension based. Ironically, I always had trouble with science and math but my highest scores were on those sections. It wasn't overly hard.
The main thing with the writing section is your abilty to clearly state and defend an opinion. I used to teach GED prep and I found the LAST essay questions and the GED essay questions to be very similar.
The CSTs are the tough one.

It was pretty easy..all of the material on it is what you learned in elementary and high school.
Did you get one of those practice books?

I took it in October. I didn't think it was so bad. I actually think like the minority of teachers---that the ATS-W was harder. Luckily, I passed them both.
Anyway, if you look at the Barron's LAST study guide...some of the questions are exactly the same!!
If you need help...Let me know.
I actually have an extra LAST book you can have. FM me for info.

The last is incredibly easy. I got a near perfect score. it's all general knowledge questions. It's really SO easy, I just wouldn't take it and the ATS-W on the same day, because after 4 hours I was exhausted!

I thought it was very easy...(took in 1995)
I took it with the ATS-W on the same day - and yes long -but good to get it over with. I only looked over the sample questions that they give you in the brochure

I agree. I took it in 1994 on the same day as the ATS-W and by the end of the day, I was exhausted!

i took both in the same day and had a horrible time. first of all, the test is just looooong and requires a lot of reading!!! 50 questions, and reading lots of passages that are several paragraphs long and then an essay. what made my time **** was that i had dh drive me to the site so i wouldn't be stressed. so it was time for lunch and we couldn't eat in the building, so i had to eat outside, on the cold cement on a 30 degree day in march and then wait another 2 hours to take the second test. oh man...i hated that part. but somehow, miraculously, i passed both. now, june 25th..the cst

it was easy. I also took the LAST and the ATSW on the same day. They are both very basic. I wanted to do take them the same day to get them over with.
