Is this normal?
Lexie has to go out to pee constantly (every 30 minutes). (she is 3 months old today!) Everytime she goes out, she only pees a tiny bit. Then she'll come in the house and pee more on the rug. Chat Icon
How can we get her to let it all flow at once? Chat Icon We give her plently of time outdoors...
Thanks!

Re: is this normal?

Has this always been the routine, or is this a recent change in pattern?

Ok, just making sure b/c this is one of the symptoms to look for in the dog food scareChat Icon

Do you play with the dog when you bring her outside? If so maybe limit the play time until after her bladder is empty. If the dog knows they will get play after only doing a little pee, then they might only do a little to get to the play time faster. Definitely reward the pup when she does her business, but no real play time until that bladder is empty! If this does not work ask the vet if there is something with the breed that makes this behaviour common, or to see if any medical tests are warranted.

Yes! Very normal... shes still very young!!! You will see a differences as she gets older! She's still just a baby! Keep taking her out! You sound like you are doing a great job with her house training!

I wouldn't say its completely normal. My puppy is 3 1/2 months old and he'll go out every hour and a half. At night he'll hold it for 4 1/2 hours tops. THey say that however old your dog is + 1 is the amount of hours they can hold it.

Every dog is DIFFERENT. Some need to go more frequently, especially small dogs. I remember taking my puppy out every hour. And if its every half hour... than thats what it take

Re: is this normal?

I had the same problem with Bella, at about the same age, one day we were at the vet for shots and he asked how the potty training was going, and I told him that she would pee outside and then about 10 minutes later she would go again in the house. He said that she could have an UTI so he took a urine sample and she DID have a UTI and crystals in her urine, after 3 days on the meds she wasn't peeing in the house any more!! I would mention it to your vet.

Thanks everyone!

We actually have a vet appointment tomorrow afternoon, so I will see if they can test for a UTI. I'll let you know what happens.
