Re: ILs and IVF

No friggin way - first of all the drs probably won't allow it and second of all IMO she has a nerve asking.

sorry if I'm harsh, but I'm just shocked that she'd ask

Re: ILs and IVF

I never heard of that...your DH yes but your MIL? That's so weird of your MIL IMO. I think they only allow one person in there anyway....that's what I would tell her.

I was wondering if I am over-reacting... you know with all these drugs racing through my body. My MIL wants to be in the exam room with us for the transfer. I think she is out of control and there is no way anyone besides medical professionals and my DH will be in there with me. I cannot find a way to tell her this without hurting her feelings. Anyone have overbearing MIL issues? I feel like this stress is not helping me get through the next few weeks! Am I the crazy one, or is she?

Oh you are DEFINITELY not the crazy one. I would just tell her the Dr does not allow anyone in besides your DH. Its not like she's going to see anything. Its basically a medical procedure?

Re: ILs and IVF

This is EXACTLY why I never told my MIL about anything, LOL! She should NOT be in there, just tell her the doc said no, just hubby can come in, that maybe the rule anyway.

Would she be there during normal intercourse conception...NO, LOL

Sorry you gotta deal with thisChat Icon

When I did the actual transfer Dh wasn't even in the room with me let alone my MIL! Somehow I don't think she would be in the room of you conceived naturally! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Sorry couldn't help myself! Dh was with me in recovery room afterwards whilst I lay there for the hour.

Good luck! Chat Icon

When I had my transfer, noone was allowed in the room but the Dr. and two nurses...DH waited in the recovery area for me the first time and my mom was there the second time.
I would just tell her no....thankfully, my MIL is not nearly that involved in our lives.Chat IconChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

The transfer is , to me, the IVF equivalent to BDing to have a baby. No MIL allowed!

My MIL felt funny coming in to the fitting room with me when I wanted her to see my wedding gown!

Re: ILs and IVF

I think its very odd that she would want to be there. If you were conceiving naturally, would she be there giving you instructions?

Re: ILs and IVF

Forget that! You wouldn't have sex with your MIL in the room so I would tell her she could wait in the waiting room. Besides my doctors didn't even allow DH in for the transfer!

Re: ILs and IVF

I am not sure what Dr. you are seeing but for the transfer they didn't let my DH go in with me. He waited in another room because the procedure has to be completely sterile. After the procedure he came to me in the recovery room. But even still just tell her it's an emotional day and time for you and him and you would really appreciate privacy.

Re: ILs and IVF

She is crazy. Maybe clinically so, if she thinks that is at all appropriate!!!

Just tell her it is a surgical procedure and just like if you had normal surgery the fewer people in the room the better as germs, etc. can get in.

Then tell her you will call her as soon as you get home from the clinic...and wait 3 hours to do so.

Ugh...sorry you have to deal with this. Chat Icon
