another BF question...
If you are EBF with no formula supplement....how do you stock up on extra for bottles so that Daddy can feed or you can feed while out and about???
Also, when they are ready for solids and ceral, do you STILL BF???
I REALLY want to EBF for awhile, 6-12 months but I also want DH to share in the feeding as well as be able to go somewhere and have a sitter feed her too.

Re: another BF question...
While out and about with the baby you'll probably just breastfeed, even if the idea freaks you out a bit now. The alternative (feeding the baby previously pumped milk) is complicated and results in some physical discomfort for you (engorgement). I was a very modest person (I'd never wear a shirt that showed my belly button) but I am very comfortable nursing in public...
In terms of daddy feeding, you are likely to pump right before at first to keep your supply going. If he is going to do a late night feeding, that means pumping right before going to sleep.
Or sometimes you can pump first thing in the morning on the opposite side you plan to feed first.
Babies start cereal/solids at 6 months, but still need breastmilk or formula until they are 1 year.

Re: another BF question...
I just pumped a lot, so that I had milk to use for bottles and to freeze. When Angela was very little and only taking 4 ounces, I would be pumping 8 ounces at a time. So if my husband got up to give her a bottle in the middle of the night, I would pump and store that milk. Also, if I had to go out for a while and I was "full" and it wasn't time to feed her, i would pump. Even when they start taking cereal, you mix that with breast milk. Right now my best friend has a 10 month old who is eating plenty, and she still nurses him in the morning before work, once during the day and at night before bed. Unfortunately for her, for some reason he is still waking in the middle of the night to eat - and she nurses him then too.

Re: another BF question...
I would only make bottles when I knew I was going to be out of the house. I do however have 1 back up 8oz in the freezer JIC. I would nurse in the AM on one side then pump the other.
Jeremy is on solids and he is still nursing. Heck Emma was 2 1/2!!

Re: another BF question...
I am still a novice at this, but I have been feeding Carolyn what I have pumped since day 3. Giving her the breast was such a frustrating experience for both of us. She would cry because she was starving and I had no idea what she was getting. It varied everytime. I was sad and frustrated because I could not figure out what was bothering her. Finally, my nurse suggested I begin pumping and it has been great. I am not able to store yet, but I have been about three bottles ahead of her. Also, I have to supplement at night (2 feedings) with formula, so everyone gets to feed her.

Re: another BF question...
I would pump whenever I could in the beginning, usually after I fed her or on the opposite side, early morning is usually best to get to most milk. Its tough in the beginning, but after the first month or 2 you get to know your body better and get a better routine for pumping. When we go out I always BF her, it is much easier that way and I am VERY modest person as well.

Re: another BF question...
The LC I consulted told me to feed the baby on a regular schedule (every three hours or so - whenever he was hungry) and to get extra milk, pump once or twice a day (I did once per day) in between feedings (about 90 minutes after his feeding started). Also, my DH gives him a bottle for his last feeding at night (about 6:30PM), and since Jesse has been sleeping more, I've been pumping later (around 10PM) so I am more comfortable overnight until his next feeding (about 5AM). This pumping I get about 8-9 oz, so between both of them I was getting about 12 oz, but Jesse only takes about 6oz in the bottle. The rest gets frozen.
