Neiman Marcus question
If something they have is on Back Order, how good are they at getting it to you by the date they say on the website?

I've always gotten my items before the "backorder date". (I can't say the same for Saks.)

I had the same good experience with NM (I recently received a dress about 1 month before the back order date). 
PS - I hate Saks too.

just an observation here but... why don't they have that store in NY (LI or NYC)? I realize we have plenty of high end stores here, but I always wondered why we don't have a NM.
NM has a store called "Last Call", it's like Saks off 5th and Nordstrom Rack. sure would be nice to have one of those!

There's a NM in White Plains, plus Bergdorf Goodman is owned by them.
ETA: I believe there was some talk of a NM going in Syosset (by the LIE), where they're supposed to build a mall. I know the residents were fighting the plan, so I don't know if they're still going ahead with the mall.
ETA even more info: Looks like they're going ahead with building the mall: The Mall at Oyster Bay

Recently I was on back-order for a pair of shoes with NM and they called about a week before the date and told me that the manufacturer was pushing the date back and they couldn't promise it. They asked if I wanted to keep my order or cancel. I decided to keep it b/c I really wanted the shoes, and about a week later, they showed up on my doorstep.
I think they were great b/c even the CHANCE that they wouldn't show up was enough for them to call me to make sure I was ok with it.
