Hello. I went there. Yes there program is a dual cert. It's a very good school.
They do misadvice, but I think most schools do.

Re: St.joes
I went to St. Joe's. I loved it. It is a bit high school-ish, but its a small school. You do have to do a thesis, but my friend said they shortened it up. So you got lucky!! You will get the dual certification which is great, if you want to teach special ed. Also, I plan on going back there for my MA in Childhood/Adolescense Special Ed. It is a brand spanking new program! WoOo hoOo!

No joke.. its so hard on LI! But...you make yourself more appealing because SJC is one of the few who does a dual cert.

Yes..you are so much more marketable with a dual! I went to St. Joes as well and felt so prepared when I starting teaching. Also, I was on the interview committee for my school and I can tell you that St. Joseph's grads were in demand. Its got a great reputation.

I graduated from St. Joe's in 2003, but that was right before they started the dual cert. program. The thesis was a big pain in the a**!

Re: St.joes
Hello Alum! I went to St. Joes too! Honestly, the dual cert sounds nice but it is really who you know and how hard you are willing to work at it to get a job. It took me a while to find a job on LI and I had even left the feild cause I couldn't get hired on LI and the city told me I was "a dime a dozen with my certification" so you have to put yourself out there. Good Luck and I liked St. Joes good school.
