Isn't the Internet a horrible thing sometimes!
Our ped. recommended adding a bit of rice cereal to Kevin's formula to make it thicker because he spits up so much.
Well of course I had to read up on it and I found all these sites that say the baby can choke or get such severe constipation they may have to be hospitalized for it so now I'm freaking out!
Grrr!

I know a LOT of people do this. My sister in law adds rice cereal to her baby's formula and has been doing so for quite a few months with no problem. If you are concerned definately discuss it with your pediatritian, and if you trust his or her advice, I think it should be okay.

I hate that!! LOL... I did the same thing..lol.. until I too got ****** off at the results!! LOL...
Just go with ur Dr. and of course your LIF BTDT moms!!!
Now for my two cents.. lol.. My son did get constipated from the rice cereal.. and then we put him on oatmeal (also in the bottle) and he was fine! Good Luck!

Yes, there is way way too much bad info out there. Some sources, even ones that seem like are credible sources of information, can just put more doubt in your mind and not really be as credible as they seem. And then you have the Parenting Boards, not one like this where alot of people meet or already know each other, but boards with people from all over, most of the people you will never meet and never know what they are about, and you are receiving information from them...you have to ask, who do I trust more, this stranger is cyberspace or my pediatrician? Its not bad to collect info and ask your pediatrician about things you have heard, but dont let it control what you do. Otherwise you will always be second guessing. Im sorry that you are so worried as a result. How much is your ped saying to put in the bottle? Im sure its not that much. Just stick with the amount the doctor says. My son got constipated from rice cereal. I never put it in the bottle but its the most common cereal to begin with and he did get constipated. We switched to oatmeal and he was fine.

The doctor told us to start with 1/2 tsp. per ounce of formula.

I started giving my son cereal when he was about 2 months and it helped him with sleeping through the night my doctor told me not to do it but my mom said she did it when i was a baby and my grandma before her so I have to say I listen to wise mothers before doctors.
