19 minutes
OK, finished it..LOVED it, couldnt put it down, but slightly dissapointed at the ending.
I knew what was coming as far as Josie goes towards the end...It was predictable in leading up to that and that annoyed me a little....
But I just wish she would have shown a little more "after"...maybe explain how others saw Josie after finding out etc.
But great book...freaky that I was reading as the VA stuff happens and in a way weird, she wouldnt have had luck getting this book published NOW.

Re: 19 minutes
I just finished this last week. I really liked it. It is so freaky that the VA shootings happened just as I finished it.

Re: 19 minutes
I read this a few weeks ago & though I was a little disappointed in the end (and generally, I do not like the ending of Jodi Picoult books), I loved this book and think it is my favorite Picoult book.
The timing is certainly eerie. As I was watching the VA Tech tragedy unfold, echoes of this book were in my head.

Re: 19 minutes
I definitely agree about the ending. I wish she went into what josie actually went through regarding her boyfriend. before reading "19 minutes" i read "vanishing acts" and "my sister's keeper". they were all really good, but i need a break from her. they really touched me down deep! going for something lighter and fluffier for the next read.

her books do stay with you.
The Pact is one of hers that haunted me for a while afterwards.

Re: 19 minutes
I've read all her books and the one thing I find she always does is take a horrible situation and make it 100 times worse and then write about - brilliant writer

Re: 19 minutes
I finished it last week and i loved it!! It was an addiction to say the least. I felt so badly for Peter and how mean those kids were to him (although he took it alittle far himself...)
I liked the ending. I was BLOWN away that Josie had shot Matt. I too though wish there was more explanation to WHY and what her mind set was when she did it etc.
Overall, I was VERY PLEASED!!!

Re: 19 minutes
I agree. I love all of Jodi PIcoult's books though. This one of her best....I still think My Sister's Kepper is better!!!

I loved that one too. I was SHOCKED at the end. I really liked The Pact too though. SO Sad!

Re: 19 minutes
The end ing was awful - I don't like Piccoult's endings as a whole. She spends so much time setting up the plot and that tries to ties things up too quickly, and IMO too sloppily.

ITA. That's exactly my issue with her endings. She tries to tie everything up in a neat little bow and it doesn't fit in, is too unrealistic, or silly.

I totally agree with this...I don't read her books anymore because of this. It's just annoying to me.

Re: 19 minutes
really?
I didnt think this ending was tied up at all..in fact I didnt like the ending b/c of how left open it was....and I thought it was different from how she normally does it.....and what about " Keeping Faith"? That one had no real ending at all?
And others have an ending thats slightly predictable?

Re: 19 minutes
Well, I finished and have to say I loved it- I even enjoyed the ending.
ETA: I think what happened in the end for each of the characters made complete sense based on the events throughout the book.

SPOILER I just feel that in her endings, esp those with trials, people always seem to get "off" - I do feel that the ending of "Nineteen Minutes" was wrapped up too nicely with Alex finding love with the detective and the pregnancy - it's like, give me a break
